Shen Main returns after 8 Months. Shen feels like a wet noodle, what should I play instead?

Hello Fellow Summoners,

What did they do to my beloved Shen? I loved him post rework and had a nearly 75% winrate with him last season. Now he seems so frail and weak. What did they do to him? What on earth is going on in these games? The damage is insane and I feel like a wet noodle.

Yorick and Warwick reworks are awesome though. But I love my Shen.

Also Ivern seems cool but I have no idea what on earth I am supposed to do with him.

Poppy is a harder hitting Tank

Current Shen's actually a lot better in most 1v1 duels compared to prework.

I'm guessing you're too used to his simple Point & Click Q. Current Shen takes a lot of good positioning in order to dish out a good bonus damage from his new Q (the sound effect of his empowered Q when blade passed through enemy champions is addictive af). His new W is also a better utility than his old one, where he can now block tons of valuable AAs from enemy champions like Fiora, Riven or Vayne, compared to his old W where it's nothing but an AP scaling petty shield.

Shen actually hits really hard. His shielding is conditional on properly timing your abilities, which I personally really like.

Give him a shot in the JG. He'll shred through single target camps faster than any other Jungler, I think. His clear suffers until you get cinderhulk, but avoiding raptors helps protect you a bit.

Start Q, W second in the JG (blocks monster attacks), then Q again or E if you plan to gank.

Lethality(Armor Pen) builds are T1 right now. So you should probs play Jhin.

Play Cait, obviously.

He is a pretty decent top lane pick. It's a pretty safe top lane to play if you can manage his dodges and W well, and his Q does a lot of damage. The harder part is finding the perfect times to ult.

Here's my 2 good shen games: 10/3/19 - Victory

5/1/11 - Victory (Edit: this one is actually just kind of a bad example all around though, but I did keep a darius down all game)

And one that is less good lol:

7/4/12 - Defeat

Check the Runes & Masteries I use. They probably aren't the best, but the full regen masteries with a Doran's Shield start is a very strong early game sustain. You can notice the 23 HP regen. It can keep you in early game like a Garen. Attack speed lets you put all your empowered AA's on.

The little bit of AD helps last hit early w/o using energy on Q, but it is probably a good idea to use Magic Pen or more attack speed instead.

Any thoughts on Nautilus and Trundle?

He is pretty good, I mean maybe not a Super tier pick... but he and poppy are the tankiest things on the map currently.

It's assasin meta, so not best time to play tanks right now

I think Shen is strong currently. He is a good duelist and has the potential to be good in fights( but is not the tree by any means). This main problem is the one with all tanks were if the game gets late enough the adc will kill you super fast, but your w delays your death so if used well lives far longer than other tanks that cannot dodge aa's. Ps may be biased I was carrying my team as Shen in my last game... until the Cait got gaint slayer and could kill me in 5-6 hits.

Poppy and Maokai are pretty strong for top lane right now. Maybe even try Ivern if you want to play a defensive style tank.
