ADC: What is a good ADC for someone new to the role?

Clockwork Madoka·3/24/2016, 4:58:00 PM·2 votes·4,992 views

I have a fair amount of experience in most roles, with jungler being the role I have the most. Right now, I'm having troubles learning the ADC role, and I'm not sure what would be a good champ to play to learn the role. Right now, I have Ashe and Tristana (although I want to save for Jinx). Would either of these two be adequate to learn ADC?

As I said, I have experience in other roles and the ADC doesn't need to be barebones basic, just one I can learn relatively quickly to be able to use if I ever get forced into the ADC role.

Caitlyn You can't get an easier learning curve. Long range, escape, lane bully

JavelinJoe3/24/2016, 5:01:19 PM1 votes

Don't bother with Jinx right now. Get Jhin, Lucian, Ezreal, or Vayne. Personally I like Jhin the best, but Vayne does true damage. Ashe and Tristana are both fine as well.

Sivir passive and ult make chasing easy ult and spell shield make her safe w richochette crits give her lots of late-game damage, push and stall potential the attack speed that her ult gives her w lets you take towers and do more damage. lane bully Even if you get crushed in lane you still have ult and waveclear so you're useful item 3046 item 1300 item 3139 item 3142 item 3071 - these items make you go fast(not an actual build)

I think you should play......... Tristana - not lots of skill needed good suggestion to play, I agree with this since it has escape good poke on enemy, lategame is strong, op splitpusher with high dmg on tower, safe aa . Jhin - last bullet on passive bullies enemy marksman hard, safe AA, no escape, early game not too strong but his crits are deadly dangerous for enemy marksman and support, highly recommended Varus I don't think his too strong but his quiet really forgotten which makes him more scarier because many people forgot his abilities and his Q range which is super high! Sivir Safe game against high CC enemy and early game support blocks many abilities, ultimate can carry team and change the game, ultimate can decide who will win game, the crits on her wave clear is ridiculously good. Graves U cant play him until he gets cigar Ashe Soo easy to play and fun! I love hitting enemy with Q and spamming W every 2-4 seconds, vision from E, global ultimate can change game. Vayne Looks ugly without skin RIP Corki His more likely midlaner now. Draven Really hard to catch axes, (I was good catching them then I became bad since Im not draven main) Jinx I dont suggest playing her because I never seen her for while shes forgotten mby Kalista Nerfed! Never play nerfed champs Lucian Suggested since his game is soo cool. Urgot U need to install star guardian urgot then play him.

I would recommend Caitlyn Sivir Quinn Graves Tristana

They have good, safe range or an escape/dash.

Maybe Lucian also.

Stay away from Jhin for now cause he is immobile and the reload time sucks (plus there is a bug with his grenades not bouncing 4 times right now). Definitely play him later cause you may like/be good with him, but being new to the ADC role, laning will be hard and assuming you get out of the laning phase okay, the assassins would wreck him hard.

I forgot to mention...I'm not planning on playing ranked, I've only recently reached level 30 and I'd rather not jump into it.

Thanks for the suggestions though. I figured champs like Jhin would be bad for beginners.

Moulin Rouge3/24/2016, 5:59:48 PM1 votes

Jinx isn't nerfed she is balanced. People only want to play OP champs that are over tuned. Her numbers are fair.

Amelie3/24/2016, 6:39:05 PM1 votes

Caitlyn Ashe Varus These three are probably easiest to pick up. Decent range on them all. Jinx and Tristana could work as well, but slightly trickier to play.

Casters like Ezreal/Lucian/Jhin/Graves/Corki play a lot differently and you'd be better off trying them after getting comfortable in the role.

Kalista/Vayne should be avoided at all costs. You need to be very comfortable with the role to play them.

Sivir is fairly easy, but very short range, so I don't suggest her at all. Twitch, Quinn, and Draven aren't beginner friendly due to their kits.

Vayne is not good for beginners, her range is the lowest of all marksmen (good tradeoff for her potential) and should be handled by experts only. Your positioning has to be well above par to do well with her.

For a beginner playing ADC, I would say either Draven or Kalista. Sure, they seem advanced and you might not do well on your first try, but they will both force you to learn about positioning more than any of the others purely because their kit requires you to make CONSTANT binary decisions (yes or no). ADC is always about your position and it is a huge part of the role itself. When you play Draven you will subconsciously decide whether or not it's worth it to pick up your axes.Kalista works in the same fashion, but a bit more advanced, "Which way should I jump, or should I stand still?"

The better and faster you are at making these decisions on the spot, the better you will be at the marksman class.

If you want a champ that is easy to play and CS with, go for Ezreal, but you won't learn how to play marksman anywhere near as quick.

Tristana is very good all around. Good range, which makes it easier for people who's positioning isn't amazing(which is important for an ADC). Has an escape in her rocket jump, which is something huge considering how squishy you're going to be as an adc -- Oh, and self peel in her ultimate. And of course her damage and pushing abilities are all solid. Low skill floor high skill ceiling. My suggestion to anyone who wants to start the role.

darkmatchwaldo3/24/2016, 7:06:39 PM1 votes

Ezreal Lucian Tristana are three i would recommend.

They have abilities that let you re-position yourself and are pretty straight forward with what they do best.

Ezreal Has a monster late game and is more a spellcaster for the first 20 minutes or so. Once you have item 3025 item 3042 complete your auto attacks becomes pretty damn strong. Is easy to farm with as well.

Lucian is an excellent duelist. He is a lane bully with a strong early game. Capable of huge things once you have some practice.

Tristana The tower shredder. Great on siege comps. Cleans up fights really well with her Rocket Jump reset.

Tyrone Lannister3/24/2016, 7:08:19 PM1 votes

Caitlyn. Her range allows you to play safe and poke in lane. Another one would be sivir. You legit afk waveclear and press r

DREADN0UGHT3/24/2016, 7:10:41 PM1 votes

Ezreal Ashe Lucian are fairly simple to play as. No big mechanics required and safe to lane.

Annie th DrkChld3/24/2016, 7:17:21 PM1 votes

only a few i would recommend cause some are more win lane focus and you just want a champion to play when you cant play your main

MissFortune Ashe They are used more for their ultis so just dont feed Ezreal Varus Just poke and dont try too hard, again just dont feed

I like Tristana (She's my main), and she's pretty easy to learn, but she also encourages bad plays (all-in with jump) and will make team-mates rage (Ult people out of position) when you're starting out. She has a good kit, but is not good for the current meta (her midgame is weak and in the current state, games are usually decided well before lategame).

For a BEGINNER, the best adc is Caitlyn . She has the best starting range, her passive is very forgiving when learning cs early and her harass with Q is solid and VERY safe. You can also do your own zoning with W and have an escape with E. On the plus side, her Ult is point and click, on the downside, it's blockable. She's not the STRONGEST adc, but she's a solid BEGINNER pick to get comfortable with the lane and role, without forcing you to rely on a truly unique "gimmick".

SirSmokeysAlot3/24/2016, 7:44:31 PM1 votes

Honestly, I would say any adc with a dash is a great pick. Trist or Cait in my opinion.

Athenes Lulu3/24/2016, 9:13:42 PM1 votes

I don't recommend Jinx because right now, her harshest counters (Ez/Lucian) are very strong, and that it takes very smart teammates/players to execute it well.

If you want to just learn: Caitlyn If you actually want to win with less effort: Sivir Other recommended ones: Tristana Ashe MissFortune Avoid these: Draven Vayne Lucian Ezreal Corki These will not help you learn ADC: Graves Quinn

Caitlyn has the kit to help people learn the basic concepts of ADC, such as last hitting, trading, zoning, and wave controlling. However, she actually takes a while to even play decently because the numbers alone will make dummies not do so well. Sivir... she can do a lot. Ultimate that is another word for 5-man buff, shield is good for self-peel especially if your teammates can't peel for you, ability to effectively splitpush, and her damage... is just pretty straightfoward.

The champs in "avoid these" are either too mechanically intensive, too high of a skillfloor, extremely support dependent, or just don't follow the "classic ranged AD" formula. Yes, as in, if someone has no idea on how these guys work, they will easily lose lanes for others.

Big Lincoln3/24/2016, 10:23:03 PM1 votes

Ashe is both very easy to pick up and very satisfying to play well.

She has very good damage so you can carry if you like, but she's best used for her utility which lets you contribute when behind. Also helps you learn how to kite better since it's built into her kit, and there's a fairly good skill curve with her ultimate and landing the long range snipes.

Sivir similar story as Ashe, but she speeds up her team instead of slowing the enemy. Very good with the right comp, and her passive helps w/ kiting too.

Tristana she's very safe thanks to her growing range per level and multiple self peels. Probably the best beginner ADC to pick up if you really wanna carry games, because she's got resets and a LOT of damage to go with it.

MissFortune is a little bit behind in terms of meta right now, but when she's good she's an amazing lane bully. Most of her learning curve is when and how to use her Q bounce to chunk people in games; other than that, she's fairly simple, and a good ult can win you the game.

Ackelope3/25/2016, 10:47:30 PM1 votes

as a 110k-ish mastery Ezreal player, I can say he's pretty strong right now and not very difficult either. His skillshots are things to get used to, but if you've already been playing for a while and have experience with skillshots he's pretty solid, especially with the strength of blue build lately (though you're an asshole if you use it imo :P)

Ashe is the best adc to learn how to adc with. If you can play her pretty well then you deserve to be given the self-peel, mobility, and generally more complex mechanics of all the other adcs and be able to use those tools efficiently instead of just wasting your cooldowns.
