What's With Normal Matchmaking?

So, I have been paired with lots of Gold ELO players in games recently, and I have been getting stomped (There was a Diamond ELO once... it was a slaughter...). I know I am Bronze, and I accept that, I just would like to play against other bronze players. Why has the matchmaking been so random with ELO pairing?
