Can Malzahar Carry?

Hey guys, I'm a Silver 2 (hoping to get gold by the end of the season) Malz Main and I'm wondering if Malzahar can carry his team to victory.

I ask this because i got into an argument with a friend recently who said he just cannot carry, and I replied saying that he can easily win lane due to being such a safe farmer and whenever the opposing laner leaves you just spawn a voidling and take the tower, then after that tower has fallen you go roam to help bot/top and take drake which can easily snowball into a victory. This is all without mentioning that almost every game I play with Malz I have (by a fairly significant margin in most cases) the most dmg dealt to champions. I realise that I'm probably not going to be able to play this way as I reach higher rankings due to people just buying QSS (silvers rarely do). Also if the enemy jungler isn't great I can usually take both mid towers within 15 mins (against an easy Kat lane or something).

HOWEVER- I recognise that the actual amount of kills Malz can get seems to be much lower than other champions such as Diana. Although I think that carrying isn't about kill necessarily, it's about kill participation, presence in teamfights and the ability to take objectives, and I'd say that the ability to take objectives is what Malz excels at (W deals insane dmg on drake/baron and voidlings just tank towers), as well as his team silencing Q (also gives vision which can be very useful + huge dmg).

TL:DR Malz is great at melting objectives and provides insane dmg and utility in lategame teamfights so is this classed as a carry or no?
