"Beginner" Champions?

So often I've heard this nebulous term "beginner champ".

  • "You only won because X is a beginner noob champ!"

  • "You went X? GG we lose, that's just a beginner champ."

I'm not even going to try to understand the paradox of both these things existing at once, but this does trouble me. Does Riot intentionally design certain champions as "beginner" picks and basically pigeonhole them into never getting any love?

I recently saw some Red post, I think about Taric, saying something that confirms this.

(No proof, I know, but if anyone knows what I'm referring to, can you post the link?)

Thoughts?

they intentionally leave some champs with simpler kits, but they dont leave them underpowered or weak because they are simpler. they just buff them in certain ways and nerf their weaknesses so their strengths and weaknesses are emphasized.

Annie for example is one of the simpler champs. She can blow you up, but she has to literally walk up to your or flash to do that which is very easy to counterplay. she's not weak, but her weaknesses is glaring, and her strength is just as glaring.

they dont need to touch the simpler champs because balancing them is quite easy.

Amumu Annie Blitzcrank Garen Leona Malphite Rammus Morgana Warwick there are more easy champs, but they're very effective at teaching people how to play league and to play to strengths/weaknesses. they may not be the best at something but they generally perform at the same effectivness in a lot of situations, they'll be accomplishing their smaller goals more frequently.

other champions like Orianna LeeSin Jayce Cassiopeia are generally tougher to play but can accomplish a certain task very well. whatever it is, they're practically unrivaled in what they can do for a team.

Ah, ok. That's what I was thinking. It just irks me a bit to see people who complain when you play these sort of champs and don't even consider them "real champions".

I love how "Morgana can't carry" and "Morgana's a noob easy champ to carry with fuck you" are things that have been said by friendlies and enemies in the same game to me.

Beginner champions tend to be easier to understand and learn, that's just about it. They don't have much loaded into their kit, but it is reliable.

Annie has a point and click and two instant AOEs, whereas ekko for instance has a skillshot Q, a W that takes time to arm and you have to be standing in to stun, but provides a shield, a dash that provides a blink and bonus damage on the next auto... see the difference?

The main part is that annie is easy to summarize, but doesn't have as much loaded in. That's how I would define a beginner champion, as simply designed champions are easier to learn.
