Mages, for the most part, are designed to do heavy amounts of damage from long range at the expense of defense. They are squishy, mostly lacking in mobility, but they hit like a truck with their full combos. Sometimes the only way to get to them to shut them down is hard CC to lock them down so the team can get to them to kill them. If they were to have a QSS equivalent, this would make it next to impossible for a large majority of champions to lock them down long enough to kill them. Imagine if you were facing
and the only way to get to her, based on your team composition, was a
ult. If she had QSS, she would pop it, turn around, and blow up your team (or deal a heavy amount of damage) before you could get to her. Without a QSS, she would stand there for about 2 seconds, and your team could run up and kill her before she can react. There is the
, but it lasts for 2.5 seconds, so using it could potentially leave you up to get killed as soon as you come out of stasis, which is why mages have that item over a QSS.
