so im silver 4 right now, and im trying to climb to gold before the season ends. but i keep getting matched with people anywhere from silver1 - gold4. i'm having a lot of trouble carrying these games, because thats where i think my skill level is. (around gold 5)
shouldn't i be getting matched with high bronze/ low silver players? i would have a lot easier time climbing if i actually got matched with people in my elo.

Have you been duoing alot? Duoing can artificially raise your mmr above your skill level if you've been duoing with a higher elo friend and he's carrying the games.
It seems you are at 100 LP, once you win your promos you'll probably jump a couple divisions.
simply... you won more games with just one champion... your mmr climb up so quickly until you have 50% win of a few of past days....
use op.gg to check your mmr (not accurate but just give you some ideas)

A few things. Elo, or as Riot is fond of calling it MMR, is just a mathematical representation of the skill you are expected to play at. It is entirely separate from your division, but designed to over time float you to the division associated with that skill level. So if you feel you are about a low gold player and are being matched against high silver and low gold players you are likely already playing against people in your MMR.
Second, yes if you were playing only against people in the division you are in, but have skill that on average is higher than other people in the game, you would have a much easier time winning. That being said this is why Riot does not do this. Having a formula that calculates an estimate of a players skill would not be of much use if they only paired you against people you could easily defeat.
