Ardent Censor, Forbidden Idol and Mikael's Crucibal -- is Stacking Unhealthy?

Hey there the name's Promize and as the title states I have some concerns regarding a few item changes with Ardent Censor, Forbidden Idol and Mikael's Crucibal being able to stack the 10 -15% Healing and Shield Power.

What does this change mean for the support role specifically? We will probably be seeing more supportive supports likes the faces of Karma, Lulu, Soraka, and Janna. These champions will be effected the most by this change raising their shields and heals by a significant amount.

To start off I decided to talk about Janna and how these changes will affect her in what could be an overpowered and unhealthy way. Below is a build that I threw together that I thought would be an appropriate build for when the changes go from PBE to live.

-Warning its late and I'm not so great at math so feel free to correct me please! Also my first forum post XD

Lets Start off with the item build Gold Needed for this Build 9,800 Eye of The Watcher 1850 200 Health 100% Base Mana Regen 25 AP 10% CDR 2 GP10

Ardent Censer 2400 60 AP 15% Heals and shield power 10% CDR 50% Base mana regen UNIQUE - 8% Movements speed UNIQUE - Heals and sheilds on another allied champ grats them 15% as and 30 damage on hit for 6 secs

Forbidden idol 850 50% Base Mana Regen (+6 mana per 5 seconds) Unique Passive 10% CDR Unique Passive 10% shields and heals Pink Ward 75

Rabadon's Death cap 3800 120 AP Increases AP by 35%

Ionian Boots of Lucidity 900 CDR 10%

Final Stats for Build 248AP With items and runes + unique passive of Death cap = 334.8 AP At lvl 18 Due to Scaling runes 40% CDR Total for build 334.8 Total Ap 200% Mana Regen 2 GP10 Unique passives 8% Movement Speed Unique passive Heals and shields on another allied champ grants them 15% AS and 30 damage on hit for 6 seconds Unique passive -Reduces summoner spell cooldowns by 10% (Note The Forbidden Idol Laying around our inventory could be upgraded to a crucible for an additional 5% Healing/Shield Power)

Skills To Look At With This Build

Eye Of The Storm 240 Max Rank +70% AP 5.5 sec Cool Down 408 With Ap

Monsoon 200 Max Rank +50% AP 367 With Ap

Things to add with these abilities Heals/Shield Power Increase Windspeakers blessing Cunning Talent Heals shields 10% stronger ONLY to allies Ardent Censor 15% healing and shield increase Forbidden idol 10 % increase to heals and shields Total = 35% "With this build" 35% increase

What Spells Does this affect? For ALLIES Eye of the storm 408 + 35%Healing affects add 142.8 round to 143 = 551 Monsoon 367 + 35% Healing affect add 128.45 round to 128 = 496 Ad from shield added to ally Base 40 + 55.1 = 94 Additional AD

IF SPELLS ARE APPLIED TO THE CASTER Eye of the storm 408 + 25% Healing/Shield Power Affects = 510 Monsoon 367 + 25% Healing/Shield Power Affects = 459

IF MONSOON IS CASTED ON TOP OF A PLAYER WITH SPIRIT VISAGE Monsoon 496 + 25%= 620

So What Does All of This Mean?

Well for the sake of this post lets say you are playing Janna and you are currently rocking the rift at level 18. With 45% CDR your shield will be on a 5.5 Second CD. The shield alone can last up to 5 seconds on a tower or player until broken. Meaning if your shield shields a player for 551 taking into account of your stats alone. You as a support are shielding your team blocking half a K every 5 and a half seconds. And if you need more than just a shield to keep someone alive you can disengage by simply using your Monsoon which will also be healing for 496 So about half a K which will be back up in around 65 seconds.

Jumping to a positive note real quick I love this change I feel as if adding the stat of Healing and Shield power to the game makes the stat unique to supports specifically and should feel that way. I feel it will help bring out supports we don't see much of anymore making them more viable and funner to play!

However going off of why I feel the Healing and Shielding power should be unique to supports. I feel as if being able to stack Healing/Shield power defeats the uniqueness of the trait and really makes it too strong in my opinion. What do I mean about the uniqueness of the trait? Well you can't stack Infinity edge for that extra 50% Boom to your crits.

There are several different perspectives we can look at how to make the healing/shielding power unique to supports. One option could simply be make healing/shielding power work like Windspeaker's Blessing while at the same time making it a unique passive. Only being able to stack with Mastery/Other outside sources if added to the game.

Making it a unique passive that can't stack with other items can mean many things as well. It would cause the player to make more decisions about his or her item build. Do I buy Ardent censor for the addition damage on my ADC? Or does the other team have a very threatening kill-my-hyper-carry comp and you need that cleanse from crucible to help out. Now you get to make that decision as a player similar to ravenous and titanic hydra in a sense. It allows the player to feel like he or she is more in control of the decisions they make in the game instead of just copying a cookie-cutter build. Now granted I'm not saying there won't ever be a cookie cutter build with this change but I believe it would be a start if we had more cool interactions with items where items are more situational on how the game is flowing or what your up against instead of what gives me the best stats. (A Topic for another time)

Going back to the topic of making these two items support specific I feel that has already been done for the most part and quite well this is good and awesome because that would really blow if they were more pointed towards the mid lane for champions like Swain and Vlad being able to increase their healing even more would be kind of a problem. Not to say wain can't build a Mikael's I'm thinking about trying that myself!

Long story short though I feel like the ability to stack healing and shield power is going to be abused very hard and will be too strong for the current game. I feel like with this change is and could be one in the right direction though with a little bit more balancing. However seeing a Janna shielding people for 600 and healing people for 500 every 5.5 to 60 seconds is kind of crazy to think about--and that's just with five items they could build even more AP if they truly wanted to make that stronger!

Im surprised you didnt say Sona with a Censor Grail combo. I can see a strong build from those items along with her new late game power. Her healing will be insane on top of shielding.

I have been playing a lot of support lately. And my question is could you stack item 3504 , item 3222 , 2 more item 3114 ? would the affects of it stack? because i was in a recent game where i just stacked 3 item 3114. It gave me the first item stats but the other two not so much. i had 15%cdr with all three. when I should of have had 35%cdr.

The question is, will those stats be based only on base or rather overall power? If it's only on base shield/heal then those stats won't be all that to even want to build since you could theoretically get more from full ap or athenes.

But if the bonus is based of the total amount then it will be broken and those stats will probably be turned "unique" which will still sort of suck.

Heal/shield power is a way to let supports scale without buying AP and still fulfilling their needs to uy active items. You give the example of IE, but IE scaled multiplicatively with three other stats (AD, AS and crit chance) so there is no need to stack critical damage because you can already effectively do that with other items. The only way to stack heal/shield power is to build AP, witch is normaly bad for supports to do. The design idea is that heal power replaces AP in so far that it only buffs one, maybe two of the champs abilities where AP would buff all of them, but in return you receive more defencive stats/powerful actives.
