How would you play Mordekaiser currently?

I've been thinking about relearning Mordekaiser as a sort of pocket pick for some situations. I think the fact that you can slap a collar on the dragon to come murder turrets for you would be pretty nuts with how squishy they are currently anyway, you could possibly get two turrets pretty easy out of a single dragon.

Obviously right now he's not in a great spot after being pigeonholed into the ADC role, now new ADC changes pretty much put him in the trashcan tier for champions. Recent changes have left him able to return to solo lanes, albeit not optimally. New buffs allowing him to target minions may fix some of that, but unlikely to do much.

I was considering Mid lane Mordekaiser as you still want to be close to Dragon to pick up the passive on your ultimate, I found he shares the second lowest play rate with mid lane Urgot at .08%. His win rate is also the lowest in the game currently. Not a whole lot of surprise there. His kit overall the more I look at it feels terribly designed as it's all over the place. You want HP so that you can increase your shielding amounts, but you want damage to go with the ratios on your abilities. You're forced into some odd sort of bruiser build and then you still have to be melee range to hit anyone to begin with, which poses even more problems.

I guess I'm just curious what you guys would do for solo lane Mordekaiser. As of right now I'm torn between 12/18/0 and 0/18/12 for masteries, The defensive stats seem valuable for Mordekaiser, but at the same time squeezing out the extra sustain and damage from the Ferocity tree could also be pretty handy on such few damage items. I'm not sure what I want to run for runes just yet, I'm thinking either MPen Marks (Maybe hybrid pen, but you're only getting the benefit of the armor pen on auto attacks so idk), Armor Seals, MR Glyphs, and and AP Quints, or maybe a modified Nidalee jungle page to be dependent upon the matchup. AD Marks, AP Quints, AP Glyphs, Armor or HP seals. I'm thinking the build path would be weird as all hell, but would end up looking like item 3146 item 3116 item 3053 item 3065 item 1001 item 3742 item 2138. Boots would obviously be upgraded depending on what was needed. I think item 3009 would be the best generally speaking unless the benefits of Mercs or Tabi were needed.

Summoner spells I'd be looking at summoner 14 summoner 7 summoner 6 summoner 3 then of course flash to accompany them.

Overall I feel that Mordekaiser is a complete mess right now and is going to take some massive work to fix, but he's a champion I've always enjoyed and I want to try to find a way to make him work even if it's only as a niche pick. If you guys have any thoughts at all regarding the item build, runes, masteries etc. I'd appreciate the input.

Personnally, i'm playing him in solo top.sometimes mid, rarelly bot. quint of cdr/lvl (+15% at lvl 18) , 11 magic pen, armor scaling and mmr scaling (+ 27 and + 15 if i remember) Masteries: 18/0/12 (deathfire grasp) Summonners:summoner 6 summoner 14 or more rarely summoner 4 summoner 14
Concerning the build: the core build is item 3116 item 3151 item 3065 item 3143 item 1323 (or item 1313 if there's no hard cc)+item 2138 (40% tenacity is awesome when you have the ghost) For the last item it can be item 3146 item 3053 item 3135 item 3001 item 3075 or item 3157 (I rarely take this one). it's really depending of the enemy composition.

With the core build, i have ~ 3700 hp,145 armor,130 mr, 146 ad and ~200ap and i'm already a nuisance haha. -if they don't have cc and heal reduction,go for item 3146 ,your hp will never drop down and with the active + ghost, the adc won't be able to hide -If they have a huge burst but nothing more, take item 3053

  • if they're specialized on AA,make them made with item 3075
  • if they have a lot of sustained ap damages, or/and mr,takeitem 3001
-item 3135 is an item I take when my team doesn't have a hard engage but a lot of damages: I use it for the sole purpose of my ultimate to steal HP from the guy with the most hp in the team. This way, I can be a threat and won't be ignored and have enough sustain to hold on and to permit my teammates (with assassins for exemple) to delete the carries. I also ,in the same time, become a threat for tanks (lyandris + rylai is really annoying for them when you have a void staff).

As you've see,i don't have only one build, I try to play him according to what i'm facing and I only gave you some examples of situationnal games :) I hope I helped you enough, have fun :)

top lane or mid lane. get a lot of health. some damage. armor and mr. he doesn't need that much damage to basically 2-3 shot any squishy in the game.
