Items and Masteries: Questions and Issues

Original Post: Nov 24 2015 Update: Dec 5 2015

So far I have notices some lack of interaction with abilities, items, and masteries. The most of which reference item 3303.

Galio shield does not heal from the mastery_ Deathfire touch_ (Galio's shield says whenever the unit suffers damage, that should include the damage over time from that mastery).

Shaco Boxes proc the passive of item 3285 and the effects of other spell oriented items, except for spell item 3303 .

Teemo His auto does not proc spell item 3303 nor does it behave the same way as champions who have attack modifiers.

IE: Bard's auto and passive both separately proc spell thiefs, Kayle's auto with her e actived and with it's passive both separately proc it. Lulu's auto with her passive proc it. Fizz's q procs it. Cho gath's e (with is quite literally the same design as teemo's e) procs spell thiefs.

His shrooms also do not proc the passive of luden's echo yet they proc the effects of other spell modification items like item 3151 anditem 3116. Shrooms also do not proc the passive of spell thief's edge. (I am not sure if shrooms proc Deathfire Touch)

Fizz Fizz's auto modifier from his w will proc item 3303 onhit as well as with each tick. However, each tick did not seam to refresh or even initiate Deathfire's Touch.

General Notes: I am not sure if this is intentional, but using the shield/heal from items will buff the recipient with respect to the new mastery, Windspeaker's Blessing (meaning, the shield/heal is stronger and increases their resistances). These items include but are not limited to: item 3401 , item 3222 ,and item 3190 .

The new mastery option _ Feast _ triggers on the death of any unit (this includes wards and summons). It can also trigger off of killing a gangplank barrel, but strangely Nasus can not gain a stack after "killing" his target when feast uses the same verb ("killing") to describe the death of a unit.

Thunderlord's Decree states that your "3rd attack or spell on an enemy champion..." but the damage effect can trigger off of one spell that deals damage more that once (whether it be damage over time or a pool effect). From the semantics this shouldn't work, one spell is dealing the damag there for the effect should not reslove.

  • Additionally, this mastery out values Deathfire Touch in the sense that damage over time abilities now have no penalty to deal more damage, and effectively it is additional burst damage at that.

Elaboration on points made above

If the brands passive can proc the new mastery as well as spell theif's edge's passive, then a lot more abilities and damaging effects should be able to proc it by similarity. I understand that teemo's e is a basic attack modifier, but technically it is only possible by his ability. Shouldn't it proc any effect that brand's passive would be able to; or if it truly is to be treated like an attack modifier, shouldn't any effect that could resolve by successfully dealing damage with an auto be able to resolve off of each tick of damage deal by the auto attack modifier (like the passive of static shiv)? The damage from his e is still damage from an auto attack, so it should be charging the "on attack or movement" items everytim it procs, that is if it is to be treated like an attack not a spell/ability.

Additionally, if lulu's passive can proc spell thief's** (which only resolves when she autos)** how does every attack modifier not proc that item. How does sheen for example not proc it, when the damage from sheen is done at the same time but comes from a different source (like kayle's and bard's autos). All of fizz's abilities proc it. Even the damage or time from his w (the % health missing) procs it on each tick; and once activate, all three charges of spell thiefs are concumed from one instance of on hite (this means the game is recognizing the damage from the auto, the w and the activated w as three separate occurrences of damage and rewarding each with a proc of spell thief's edge). How then does every attack modifier not behave this way? Is fizz simply an eception to the rule?

Closing thoughts:

Since this is my first time posting on the board I doubt anything will come of this, I just wanted to bring these concerns to others' attention. As a closing thought, I understand that these items and heroes combinations are not as common. The problem with shaco's boxes not procing spell thiefs even though they are explicitly dealing damage from the use of a spell's auto attacks (that technically full-fills both prerequisites of spell thief's passive), this has been around for a while. I feel like this is the precise reason why players should be circulating through the beta, so that this heroes and combinations can have a higher likelihood of being used/discovered (as opposed to everyone just trying new champions and buying the newest things in the shop). Alternatively, the fact that these issues are present reinforces what I am disappointed to admit: League Of Legends has had it's characters solidified into certain roles, items, and builds. The new masteries are more pigeon holding in that respect and I can talk at length on this subject but this is nether the post nor the time for that. Let us end on topic.

The point of this post, the point I am trying to hit home is: **Abilities that do not resolve effects should not have similar abilities resolving them. ** If someone would like to explain why there are exceptions to item effects please do so in a well thought out manner below. Otherwise, please feel free to post any anomalies that you come across while playing.
