Why do I have to manually begin an event myself?

If you don't look at the missions tab frequently, there might be a button prompting you to "Begin" an ongoing event. Why should we need permission from Riot to get free rewards? This feature is kind of annoying. Remove it. Some people aren't even aware of it and they probably don't know they aren't getting progress for missions.

Yeah, that tripped me up during the Worlds event. I hadn't played for a long time, so I logged in, saw the mission prompt in my list, and assumed that I was already working on it because it never occurred to me that I would have to manually opt-in to the free rewards that you earned by just playing the game. I wound up not starting on the Worlds missions until I had already played a bunch of games. It made a little sense with some of the early missions that made you pick a team, but it seems pointless for something like the current event, which is just about as involved as completing your daily win mission.

Because they don't want you to unlock things. It's the same thing Ubisoft does in Rainbow Six: Siege. It's true that they have those in there to help you unlock characters, etc. but they put that one little extra step in there to hope you forget because it doesn't help their business model if you are unlocking things without paying for them. By not making the process automatic it puts one tiny little road block in your way to hope that you don't notice or remember to check for them.

Isn’t it for bots to prevent them grinding out stuff?

Devil's advocate; some people might not be interested in a given event, so they don't want to have it cluttering their mission list or getting in the way of their gaming. So Riot does the "opt in" option to give people a choice to take part in the event, or just sit it out and enjoy League as-is.

Is it a perfect or ideal solution? Not especially. But it's not like there isn't any reason for it.

im sorry, this just sounds like the most zoomer complaint ever HAHA [slayer-pantheon-popcorn]

The notifications tab literally gives you a reminder, the little yellow circle at the top corner. And I'm sure for events they give you notifications for that too.

Probably has to do with spaghetti code.

Probably something about the servers blowing up? Dunno, I'm making assumptions here, but missions are very infamous of bugging out.

Because some people like me don't care about events and ignore them, don't want to see stupid mission progress pop-up for a event I'm not interested in.

You need to chill. The reason the 'Begin' function is there is so that you're not shit out of luck and missing missions because you might happen to start later or you can't dedicate all of the time at once to knocking out missions. The missions used to automatically begin when the patch went through, and people ended up losing out on missions they didn't complete in time. So hitting the 'Begin' button when you actually have a day or weekend to begin and knock out the missions is a luxury and convenience for people. If you're unable to simply press the 'Begin' button when a new event rolls around, the same as it's been for like the past year, then get over yourself. That's the most whiny, diva thing to complain about.

"WHY DO I HAVE TO PUSH A BUTTON? WHY CAN'T THE BUTTON PUSH ITSELF?!"
