Why does everyone get the same Mastery points?

I just recently found out that no matter how good or poorly you do you get the same mastery points as your team so for example a 14/3 Lux and a 0/10 Ashe will get the same mastery points why is this it doesn't seem right to me why someone who didn't do nearly as good as me can get the same mastery points now its not really a big deal but was kinda curious why that is the way it is.
