The glory days of League (S4)

simple champs, simple mechanics, simple items.

diversity in ratios majority of the champions had back in the days AD and AP ratios allowing you to play different styles => more varations of playing and it was refreshing. Example old Gragas, you could play him ad/ap or tank but ap was the most fun.

A big Mastery tree allowing you to vary between styles of playing and it allowed you to choose stats for a correspondant champion. same for runes.

No drakes to worry about => you don't depend on your jungler or botlane. Those drakes are a good objective but they impact too much the game.

Towers were there to defend you and to protect you against a gangbang dive until high levels. They were strong and didn't fall at min 6.

Assassin's weren't Overpowered, irelia was still a simple mechanic champion but a strong champ not an overpowered one. Sion was still the undead regenerating tons of HP. Aatrox had still his old design. Ww had this funny ult and this crazy lifesteal regen. Riot just keep changing every champion and sooner or later we will have totally new champions. Like the reworks of akali, aatrox, sion, gragas and talon and so on.

One shot or high mobility champs weren't as present as nowadays.

Game lenght was around 25-45 with a lot of turnarounds. Longer and much more fun game time (think a lot of people agree on this)

In the past you really felt your powerspike as a champion. If it was an early, mid or late game champion you really felt it... Nasus struggled a lot early much more than today, same for trynda...

The game was more balanced and more enjoyable because there was not a barron gamebrekar that buffed your minions to finish the game for you......

Why did Riot changed the game when they had it almost to perfection when we compare it with today?

I hope Riot themselves can understand these opinions and I don´t want them to move back the entire game but maybe create a new game by Riot that is exactly like s4..

You're looking at the game through rose colored glasses. The game just wasn't more balanced at all.
The hybrid ratios were a huge issue, and insanely hard to balance.

The old masteries work like runes do now. Except the old one had a lot of fake choices.

People can dive turrets much easier now due to increased player skill. Back in season 4, they had no idea they could tower dive.

The average game length is around 30 minutes

The game looked like ass, played like ass, it was too slow, a lot of champions were unfun to face, too many point and click abilities with no counterplay.

Try looking at the past without nostalgia goggles

I have this funny memory of shit being OP back then too, like Azir once he was bugfixed, Same with Yasou and gnar..,....worth mentioning that they all got added this season?

Jungle got hit with several reworks and the precursor of our current Baron as well, and dragon underwent one major re balancing and then a rework.

Devourer was added in season 4 as well, which added the "double hits" mechanic to the game, currently present on max stacks rageblade and it has been breaking most onhit champs ever since.

I seem to recall Shyv, Udyr and Yi all being completely insanely OP with this, just farm 15 minutes then go out to 1v5 with no problem, went so far that Riot had to straight up remove the item.

The season was really a mess, i mean the champions alone were nasty enough, none of the 3 has ever managed to be in a balanced state where they dont drive people insane and the jungle has never, not even once, been balanced, not then not now.

Pretty sure Kassadin saw major nerfs in the form of a rework before major buffs before being gutted again at this time too.

Sorry OP but season 4 wasnt all flowers and fireworks, a great deal of crashing and major frustrations went down then too.

And we are still dealing with the aftermath of it.

Lamo, there were not more comebacks at all.

Games commonly went over 30-40 minutes for no real reason other then it was possible for a clearly loosing team to delay the match forever because there was no way to force the match to end.

Assassin's have always been assassins, they did rotate which ones were most effective but there's never been a point where there wasn't similar effect as today.

There have always been "noob killers" like Irelia, Vlad is one of the oldest examples of a champion that low tier players would complain about to no end even though he was typically underpowered overall.

While I did love off spec AP builds, they were rarely competitive and mostly just novelty builds. They might do well when ahead, but on average you would still loose more matches.

Power spikes were erratic and random, snowballing was extreme.

I will agree on one point only: There is a notable uptick in mobility.

Other than that games have been increasingly streamlined so that there's less random volatility and more reward for consistently doing well and following strategy.

Ah nostalgia, what a wonderful drug.

season 4 was the most cancerous time for toplaners cause of ryze lulu nid jayce and then gnar was released. old gragas/kassadin/nid were not the glory days either.

season 5 was almost perfect
