17-6 playing midlane, 0-3 playing support. how do you win playing support?

I don't understand people who main support and win games consistently. You try to make plays in lane and adc is always too slow to respond to get the kill, would rather farm (terribly most of the time) than actually put pressure in lane. Go to other lanes to try and roam and the other person is just sitting there pinging you away. Warding is useless since nobody looks at the minimap. Supports in low elo, how do you actually win games?

on low elos kill lanes are normally good as you can snowball pretty hard. If you have a potato farming adc jjust go poke or sustain and either force the enemy out of lane or stay in lane forever. I win around 55% games as support on low elos

You aren't as likely to have consistent success in lower leagues if you main support. That's the reason why it's the role that's called last, and you end up with a Yasuo or Teemo support that tries to duo the lane in a sneaky way. One big part of the reason is the benefit they provide is rarely utilized by their teammates, which is what you mentioned. However supports in lower leagues also aren't as likely to battle for map control, which is one of their main objectives. There was a thread here earlier about how bronze players think it's okay to skip item 2049 and item 3341 . Despite all the reasonining provided to them, I suspect many of them will continue getting the trinket upgrade the other lanes need to get which is item 3361 or item 3363, and argue with their team about getting the two items every support needs.

Another reason why they don't work as well in lower leagues is because everyone is too concerned with carrying the game to work on actual teamwork. The only time they tend to truly come together is to throw the game for an unnecessary dragon or baron.

Another thing I noticed is even when you get a real support in bronze/silver, they tend to be bossy and act like they know best. So it causes a tear in bot lane's synergy. They end up salty in all chat complaining while they roam alone, constantly pinging things like dragon or baron while team fights are happening. I cannot stress how much low elo players love dragon and baron.

If you're that rare low elo support that can provide map vision, disable wards, peel enemy carries, and engage and disengage fights properly, then you'll probably start to feel ignored pretty quickly because many feel that if you aren't doing damage, and getting kills, then you must be a burden to the team. I've had several players complain that I have KDA of 0/6/27 as support in a 20 min game...it's not a great league for support mains. I only support people I know now until I'm ready for ranked, and ready to get out of bronze/silver.

Well, first remember it's a game and it's a lot of fun!

After that important step, here are some things I think might help, they focus on what it means to be a support to you, so ask yourself that question. What does it mean to be a support, what do you like your supports to do in games you are not one for instance... im going to gander at warding and making a play....

  1. Warding... easy to say, sometimes hard to do. In lower elo support will often carry the team in wards, this means vision will be limited to where you are, or where you want to see. Control the vision you think is most important. Learn to read the other team, do they gank bot, is the enemy jg a roamer? Do they go after objectives such as Baron and Dragon? Also a friendly reminder that a pink ward is a 1 time expense can really help, and in a low elo game 1 pink can really last the entire game, or at least long enough to have been worth it...

does the enemy support counter ward? Did they buy a seeker? don't be shy to go back and refresh your ward stack, when safe, and warn the adc... toss down a ward in the same spot an old one is at if it is expiring and u are going back with wards on stone.

if warding is a high priority, and since vision lets u see the gank coming for you it is... then that means some safety is needed when warding... i think that comes in the form of mobility atm for supports.... speed = safety.... item 3117 are cheaper, and give better movement when warding, (also the utility mastery which extends placements of wards is nice) toss wards from safer area's (think warding red bush from krug)

if you are a warding machine, then depending on the situation, homeguard should be one of your purchases..... it allows u to go back restock on wards, and get back out faster

  1. play-making.... its been said supports start the killing but dont finish it, if you realize that your adc is learning to farm and not recognizing your initiations, well then you have a few options....

a- keep on keeping on and go for the kill next time instead of letting them get away, a kill is better than no kill, every time the adc says ks! agree, let them know how excited you are that you were able to secure the kill for the team and now they can farm those minion waves risk free as you go and ward the rvr, bushes, and everything else around u since you prob have to go back and buy now... but its safer to do so because the enemy is dead

b- pings r ur friends, they r the friend of the adc who is free farming as well, ping before u go in, ping when you pull back, ping when u do... anything....if appropriate, and im not talking about spamming or in anger.... if they want to ignore it fine, if they ask u to stop, fine, but a lot of people in lower elo just have not yet developed the skill needed to pay attention to so many things at once, and a glaring reminder in the form of a visual and audio alert can really help them..... same with warding rvr when pushing the enemy, they have a trink, and i ur ward has expired and they have not thrown theres into the rvr.... toss out ? on the rvr bush, and play farther back, or protect the rvr as a living ward, (most ganks at lower elos are from the rvr, not tri and u have a pink in tri prob anyways)

c- stop initiating..... look at who might be a good carry on the team, and play as defensively as you can, let the adc know you want to be more defensive.... u prob died having to get to this step, so ur not wrong in doing so.... during other points in the game, focus on the carry with the most potential, not just the adc u started bot with....

well, a few thoughts.... here's to happy supporting

adc is always too slow to respond to get the kill, would rather farm

This is part of the problem. You, as the support, have to make sure your adc is ready. This is an extreme example but if your adc is clearing minions from under a turret and the enemy is already half way to their tower and you go "hm I'm going to initiate" the adc is not going to be ready and that is entirely your fault.

You, as the not farming support, have to say "can my adc follow up on this? Are they close enough? Are their gap closers off cool down? What about their sums?" and take that into account when you support. It will make your supporting so much better.

P.S. if you really want adcs to follow up play defensively. The closer you are to tower, the more likely you can not only shove the enemy underneath your own tower but the more likely your adc will follow up.

Play Bard. So much lockdown that your ADC, no matter how brainless, is going to know when you're doing things. Same with Morgana, Zyra and Karma. Damage AND utility. Also, ward your shit and abuse pings.
