Boards are congested and ignored. League subreddit is being dismissed. Give us a voice, Riot.

I typically turn to the League of Legends subreddit to process my frustrations and seek more perspectives. It is a large community that I know is visible to Riot Games, so it offers a voice to players. However... recently there was a response from someone on Riot's team who essentially said that while they see our frustrations, we are just one part of the League of Legends community.

The League of Legends subreddit is comprised of a diverse group of players who experience the game in entirely different ways, and they are now being dismissed entirely.

I have lost my voice within the League of Legends community.

I've personally been playing League of Legends since Season 2. I started out in Bronze 5, but I kept playing and over time I've climbed up to Diamond 5.

I've been through a lot of frustrations that are felt at lower elo or to more casual players related to not having a thorough understanding of the game's mechanics and patch notes. I've experienced the more specific frustrations about seemingly minor changes having a huge impact on my gameplay at higher elo. I've had periods of time where I played a couple times a month to a dozen of games per day or more.

My point is, that I am a member of the League of Legends community, and I deserve to have a voice.

This season I am frustrated. In the past, we have had substantial changes across a variety of aspects of the game, and it always took time to adjust, but it always made sense. It was interesting and effective, and it benefited a player's ability to make impactful decisions about their gameplay.

Right now the changes we are seeing with the Blue Essence are frustrating, because it feels like the incentive to keep playing has been taken away for a more long-term goal-oriented reward system that is underwhelming at best. But most importantly, the changes with the Runes are disappointing and even infuriating.

I keep seeing the rune system being presented as more diverse, but it is anything but. I used to be able to run Janna with Attack Speed, Armor, and Ability Power in my rune page and Windspeaker's Blessing with utility buffs in my masteries. It took time to find the balance for my setup, but it was very user-friendly and customizable. Combinations were seemingly endless, because the masteries offered essential meta-directed buffs, while rune pages offered user-determined options suited to their individual playstyle with the champions they played.

The new system is extremely limiting and ineffective, and I want to know if my voice (and the voices of other members of the League of Legends community) is being heard and what response, if any, will be offered so that I can confidently continue to move forward with the League of Legends game and community as it shifts and evolves.

Boards are retarded 89% of the time so I’m not even surprised.

Just because we don't reply to every topic doesn't mean we're not listening. I can tell you that there are Rioters watching and listening (waves) on Boards, the League subreddit and beyond.

And yes, Boards or the League subreddit IS only part of the greater community and also IS diverse in its type of players too. Just because you're a part (everyone is only a part, right?) doesn't mean we ignore your opinions - that wouldn't make any sense. We have to listen to all the different parts if we want to understand the whole.

I know sometimes it may feel like we're ignoring, but I can at least say that I'm personally here reading every day even though I'm mostly listening instead of talking.

Riot listens much more than other game companies like Activision and EA

While the boards are 90% stupidity and the League Subreddit barely talks balance (and more esports), Riot needs to stop putting themselves in a tower and saying, "I know better. I know more than all these high elo players."

Meanwhile, champions like Maokai and Pantheon break the game for the entire season and still don't get nerfs.

Welcome to the boards.

As far as getting Riot to make intelligent choices regarding the playerbase, its best to stop expecting or even hoping for that given how Riot has acted for the last 7+ years. This is unlikely to ever change at this point.

But we can come here and tell them when they do something stupid. Takes a little of the sting out of it.

Riot is going full EA on us, never expect anything but suffering from here on.

I mean, I understand how you feel, but Riot already looks at feedback and discuses with their community (Meddler's gameplay thoughts, ask Riot, tweets on pbe changes to name a few) more than any gaming company I have ever seen. Doing that takes from time they could be working, and yet they do it. Part of the reason they do not communicate more with the boards is because the boards is not the best place to have a discussion. Often the dramatic posts will get upvoted while the rational ones will be down voted. An unpopular opinion will often get down voted during a discussion. And people will often attack Riot rather than discus with them which discourages them from from making any posts.

League's community is massive. They can't listen to everyone. You do have a voice, you just made a post on the boards. But Riot does not have the ability to listen to everyone and they are not obligated to listen to anyone. However, they still will so their game can be improved.

Riot is a Tencent company. China > Korea > NA > EU > Others. This is how F2P games are in China, very grindy, RNG heavy, and the company is very dismissive of feedback. It was coming eventually, it's just here now.

You want to know if Riot is hearing our voices? Sure. Just head on over to the Dev Corner section and look at the Blue Essence discussions, where Riot has basically immediately changed the ways that their new loot and reward system works, the patch after they released it, specifically in response to player feedback on these boards.

As for a Rioter saying that the League subreddit is just one part of the League community....yeah, it is. How many Brazillian players are on there? How many South Korean players? How many Japanese players? How many Chinese players? How many Russians, how many EU West, how many EU North, how many LAN players are there? How many Thai players? How many Taiwanese players? How many players, out of the 16 million in the game, are there on that subreddit? Because if the answer is anything less than 8 million, yes, the League subreddit is but a small part of the playerbase.
