Just my feelings on the current state of things
I recently have grown tired of league of legends, which for me is very sad since it holds a great place in my heart. I've played this game since beta on two separate accounts my main now being the one I'm posting with I've had for the past six to seven years and my other inactive accounts would nearly be ten or so years old now. I am a bit anti social and have schizophrenia so it was always hard to make friends just simply due to how my mind works. But thanks to league of legends's team based gameplay and widespread popularity now I have made many online friends as well as lifelong friends in real life and I cannot express how grateful I am for that. This game has taught me how to deal with stress, how to communicate, and that even when your behind you can always ride to the occasion. Through these many seasons and changes I have mained top lane. It was always a personal joy to duke it out with a fellow player and then go in to be the shield for your team. That idea always felt right and just fantastic to me but as the seasons change so to did the game. I remember the moment in world's when a malph it's and nauty were hard engaging each other, duking it out, but after the initial scuffle they both left realizing they couldn't kill each other. That moment was so much fun for me imaging two Titans, a massive mountain and a golaith of a character, just fighting it out but I could tell by the casters voice and by the eventual changes this wasn't what league wanted .
Over they last few seasons I saw my favorite tank champions such as amumu, malphite, and maokai fall out of favorites till we are at the current state where tanks are no longer really picked at all in high level play/ world's unless they are comfort picks even then it's because more meta picks are being countered or banned. Thanks to the strength of bruiser/assassin runes and items being a tank maokai feels subpar. Most of the times it's simply surviving the top lane renekton or aatrox until you can be useful in top lane because you simply cannot fuel them or even out tank them thanks to their powerful dmg and even more potent healing/dealing with tanks.
Before the aatrox rework I tried to adjust to the change to less favor tanks by playing aatrox and I generally liked the champ, in fact he's one of my only two lvl seven champs, so I tried to play league the way they wanted but then the aatrox rework came and it was disappointing. Nothing in the kit was the same besides the revive and now even that's gone. Nothing is the same in that champ. Looking at reworks like akali and eve and pantheon you can see that those champs have kept some abilities and the essense of that champ but it seems that they dropped the ball on aatrox. I understand his kit may be outdated but what's wrong with that? I was having fun and so were so many other aatrox. With over 100 champions you can't expect them all to be meta some will fall off no matter what. aatrox is definitely meta now but I lost my favorite none tank and he pushed others off the map. The rework fell short in the eyes of old aatrox and y'all simply tried too hard for something else when the goal should've been to just tweek and update the kit to make him the relative same champ that the aatrox mains like while pushing them closer to being relevant If that is what y'all wantec. Now I have a level seven mastery on a champ I don't even recognise.
Just to end it I feel forgotten as a top laner. The tanks have been nerfed and are almost unplayable in high tier game play and those were my fav champs. I try adapt and y'all basically remove my fav non tank to give me this meta bruiser. And to top it all off there has been no dedicated top lane champ since ornn. Yet the highlight lanes that are flashy and explosive, being bot and mid, have gotten so much. Riot I'm sorry how I feel but I think a top laner has been forgotten about relegated to simply waiting on his cue and slugging along the meta path far from the brick walls of his home.
