How are plat players and diamonds different?

So, I became plat this season, and I really feel like I already know a lot about the game and how to play it, I know most of the matchups and how I should play against each one. I played against diamonds in a custom game once.. I got smacked of course, but I really felt there's nothing I can do there as if I was a bronze, they were so dominant and I really couldn't do anything xD. So... I really don't know how are diamonds so good and how are they so different from plats?

how are diamonds so good

in most cases they're not

how are they so different from plats?

The biggest difference is their mechanics, sometimes it's a decent wave management, and very rarely a overall good macro.

Nowadays, having a basic knowledge of the game while being good mechanically almost guarantees you a diamond.

I did some kind of challenge, practised kalista and got dia 3 on euw with 61%wr playing only her. She's got the worst wr on her role, and on top of that I'm playing only support for over 2 seasons, so I guess you've already figured out how it looks like lmao

From my experience:

Platinum is an elo where people understand their champs, most other champions and are cautious about overreaching in farming to harass too often. They understand the difference in value between 8-9 CS a minute and attempting and failing to engage a champion. They generally watch their mana, and communicate warding.

However, they generally still lack the ability to transition smoothly from playing defensively to playing offensively. Diamonds generally do that better.

From my experience in previous seasons attending different tournaments where my teams of most 3x plat and 2x gold faced against teams of 2x plat and 3x diamond or something similar.

Diamond players usually have plans within plans, planned way before the game has even started so they have methods to fall back on in case something bad happens.

Diamond players also have thing for timing. I still haven't gotten it all together yet but because Diamond players have plans figured out ahead of time, they execute plans and ganks with little to no hesitation. It's insane.

But something this isn't always the case. Sometimes getting to Diamond is just pure luck and some of them aren't even really that good, the just get lucky.

I will say, a lot of my diamond friends tend to be the kind of player that picks up almost any role while still outputting great results and doing well coordinating the team.

I guess all I can really go back to is that they're good strategists overall.

I would say something but it would probably get me banned from the boards.

Neace has some videos about how to get to the next elo. He's only done top and mid, but some general hints are there.

Best hints I can give you is pay better attention to the map and jungle timers, start tracking the enemy jungler, improve your mechanics, improve your macro, start learning how other champs work as far as match ups are concerned, start learning the power spikes, and have a pool in your main and second role who aren't hard countered by the same group of champions. For the other 3 roles, grab champs who are easy as possible.

Biggest things you've got to learn though is how to be carriable and how to come back.
