what made vayne so strong?
I play a good amount of vayne because I think she's fun, but I'm just wondering was it just the change of meta that made her so strong or was there a buff before I got her a few months ago?

Vayne is strong for a few reasons.
Vayne synergizes incredibly well with chain cc supports like Leona, Alistar, Thresh and Braum, all of whom are popular right now. The reason she synergizes well with them is because having someone stuck in one place for a few extra seconds gives her time to reposition and knock them into a wall, and also gives her time to build up stacks of Silver Bolts.
Vayne is one of the few champions in the game who does not rush Infinity Edge. Instead, she rushes Blade of the Ruined King and it gives her just as strong of a power spike. The thing is, Cutlass has almost as much AD as BFS, but also comes with an active that deals damage and slows and a nice chunk of lifesteal, while being cheaper than BFS as well.
Vayne's abilities all have AD ratios and deal physical damage. She and Draven are the only two ADCs in the game who have this trait. Other marksmen like Lucian, Miss Fortune and Ezreal have abilities that deal magic damage and scale with AP, making them useless late game when ADCs are supposed to shine.
because Riot balanced every ADC in the game and left Vayne to be overpowered

Idk I don't remember Vayne striking fear in the hearts of every ADC about 3 months ago..
Riot nerf'd every other adc besides Vayne. So she's got no early game threat to worry about except Draven who shows up once in a blue moon.
Supports are OP compared to the overnerfed ADCs, plus Vayne never got nerfed.
Equal fed vayne beats any adc 1v1 in damage, ignoring the stun.
She is so safe that she can have a horrible laning phase then come back from teamfight kills alone.

veyne isnt op. people are just strange. It seems to me like the vast majority of players below diamond are jsut totally useless as adc. And most of the really bad players also often dont use vayne, because they hope their range will keep them safe or something. This causes vayne to appear stronger.
Very simply, she's a hard counter to any melee champ who builds hp for tankiness.
Every melee champ is building hp right now because the new items are all OP and primarily they give you a lot of Hp but not a lot of other defenses. I ban her every game, then I pick
and build
with
to party hardy. Nothing can stop me. Except Vayne, which is why she gets the banhammer.
ADC item changes - Vayne got indirect buffs with the PD and BORK buffs...
Vayne is strong currently because of the item shifts. There are stronger health related items in the game, and thornmail took a huge hit in overall damage (98% of Vayne's damage output is strictly auto-attacks). Condemn being the only damaging ability while the rest of her kit caters to her enhancing her auto-attacks. Defensive Masteries have a larger emphasize on resistance stacking, which is where True Damage really shines.
There are a couple counters to Vayne's damage output. The easiest one is keeping her locked down, and blowing her up. The other one is to have shielding abilities or items that grant shields. Shields give effective HP to one or multiple characters that doesn't increase your Maximum HP that would be calculated through silver bolts. Lux Mid is slowly becoming a bit more popular because she can essentially offer her entire team double shield that has really good scaling values.
Changes to Items & Masteries is what made a number of picks stronger. I noticed it with my own main where I can actually deal damage now.
Because Zed mains cried on the boards to have the popular adcs at the time nerfed, resulting in Vayne being strong :)
