Remember when Orianna was considered one of the hardest champions in League

Orianna was considered hard, but there are still players who consider these champions hard

THERE IS A TL DR IF YOU WANT TO BYPASS THE WALL
There are actually very few champions that are harder than Ori. There is a lot to master on her. You have to get used to using autos for damage a lot as well as keeping track of the ball and knowing who it is best to put it on, when is the best time to move it, and when is the best time to keep it on yourself. Her ult is probably one of the hardest to lead abilities in the game and requires her to land a Q W or have it on someone with hard engage. And in a team fight it can be really hard to keep track of the ball and Ori at the same time while remembering to AA on top of your abilities. On top of this you have to use your damage wisely and manage her small mana pool until you get to mid-late game. She is easy to learn but really really hard to master. I mean she has one of the most flexible level ups in my opinion. Every match up I feel that each of her base spells may actually be more important to level first over others instead of the generic "I'm going to max this first, then this, then this. And I'm going to do it every time". I feel with Ori sometimes you can break free of that and go "Maybe I want to max this first this time or I could even just partially dip into it and then finish maxing ___ ability".

Bard is similar with this, but he is much harder to learner and about just as hard to master. I play him a lot, but a lot of the community hates him, and dislikes how I build him (AD bruiser bard, yes AD). There are so many people bad with him it breeds a hatred for those who have managed to break through his skill floor. I don't doubt seeing him soon in pro play. I'm quite surprised the pros haven't figured out bruiser bards potential as a support.
Lee Sin is one of the other champs that is almost exactly the same as Ori. Sure you get okay Lee's who have played enough to learn him, but a really good Lee knows how to not just go in. Good Lee's know when to peel, when to fake, how to juke, and how to position. A master Lee player is about the only way Lee can be viable late game, and even then pros and top tier players know how to abuse his late game. The reason Lee is hated so much because he is easy early (therefore good in Solo Queue), and that led to a very bad impression of him for late game (hard to compare his late game to others when he shuts them out of it).
Janna is pretty hard too, but I mean it's more of because she is very good at peeling and kiting and that's about it. She can only keep people alive who are competent so good Janna's tend to go unnoticed in solo play.
Once you hit a certain level of understanding of a champs kit, you can play about any champion. The true difficulty in a champ is mastering them. Sure you can play Orianna, but can you do everything perfectly or at least good enough to beat your opponent?
That is my favorite thing about the harder champs. There is a much bigger sense of accomplishment when you play them well while a great majority struggle or give up. And I only listed champs I have extensive experience with, this isn't just oh ___ is hard because pro's play them. It's because I know even with thousands of games in League I still haven't even tapped the whole potential on any of those champs.
TL DR; Wall of text basically says that mastery is what makes a champ hard. And quite often most champs have a very low skill floor. People like to make fun of champs for being easy, but they haven't even tapped the champs full potential.
I never bought champions like zed or orianna before because everyone said they were too hard. I finally bought zed some time ago and i found him really easy. Sure, you have to hit 2 abilties in 1 because of his shadow, but if you just poke with double Q until the opponent has 1/3 hp, you just have to ult, hit ONE Q and ONE E, it's dead. I tried orianna yesterday because she's free this weak, and i didn't think she was hard, since you can just keep distance and your Q/W takes half of your opponent hp, with some mana it's very easy to farm too.
