Balancing Akali

Here’s something I’ve noticed. Riot sucks at Balancing pro play with normal play. About 10% of the champ pool is unplayable because they’re abused in pro play and just mediocre in terms of stats. Usually this is because something is abusable in their kit, or they’re too good at too many things with few weaknesses. Well now, AKali seems to be one of those champions who’s too strong in pro play and weak everywhere else. So since riot’s not doing a good job at balancing this, I decided to take a crack at this myself.

1: Give her E range like Lee Sin Q

  • This change is small but important. If Akali lands her E there’s nothing you can do if she decides to go in. She’s going to rush you, and no amount of flashes, dashes, or ANYTHING will save you. So make her E have a maximum recast range. If Lee’s got one, why not give one to Akali? It’d be one less thing pro’s abuse, and lower elo would feel no difference.

2: Lower Q cost, increase Q cooldown, and make it store 1-3 charges scaling with level

  • This is a bit more complex but it all comes down to this. Lower elo players are not good at energy management, but higher elo players can abuse the low cooldown of this spell so I recommend a middle ground. Give something lower elo players can track with a charge system, similar to Velkoz E. This should help her in Low elo, and have little/no effect in high elo.

3: Have control wards show Akali’s Silhouette in her shroud (similar to towers)

  • I know I’m going to get yelled at for saying this, but I think Akali’s W interaction with towers is fine. HOWEVER, I don’t think only towers and true sight should be the only things to reveal her. Just give control wards the ability to reveal silhouette’s of obscures champions. You won’t be able to target her, but this little bit of counterplay will be a huge hit in high elo, and only a small hit in lower elo.
