Would support Azir work?

Azir Can Azir be a support?

Besides dreaming about Sivir/Azir Shurima lanes, I was exposed to this thought in the responses to the Azir Q&A. Would support Azir work? In my estimate, the only reason this would be questionable is he doesnt have too many things that openly help the ADC in-lane. What he does offer is decent poke-age/zoning potential (which would potentially work with the Spellthief's Edge. item 3303

Beyond that, he has pretty decent all-in potential, I'm pretty sure building him less glass cannon and more with supporting items like Locket of the Iron Solari or aura-heavy (Will of the Ancients / Zeke's Herald / Abyssal Scepter) could still leave him as a decent damage dealer. item 3190 item 3152 item 3050 item 3001

As far as the fighting goes, he'd have decent all-in potential, he'd have an escape with his slide (which could technically be blocked, but as a consolation prize he'd get a shield), and his Ult has all kinds of cute potential, beyond completely embarassing Anivia. It can block ganks, you could shut them off of the turret, either trapping them in or keeping them from hitting it, and you can get pretty easy poke if you get jumped on or dove under turret, since they have to go around it while you go through it (I have the reference in the Champion Showcase in mind for this). Beyond that, if you put it in front of you when getting ganked or pushed, you get the speed buff to escape while the enemy still gets blocked. Cuteness if I've ever seen it.

So let's recap: Escape, Pokeage, denial via wall to engage, shut down ganks/all-ins, or to stop runners, as well as a decent all-in. I think it could work.

i have already tried support azir and I can confidently say that if your adc isn't retarded it can work well. the trick is to wait till 6 while safe poking then send your soldier behind enemy lines and slide to it to set up ult. build is debatable.

I was Sivir in one game and had an Azir as support. Not only this gave me first blood, but also dominated bot lane thanks to his incredible poke. I subsequently managed to get 3 or 4 more kills before the bot tower goes. Enemy team subsequently surrendered. As I main both adc and support, I find Azir support works incredibly well. Loving the Sivir + Azir theme.

He'll never be a meta pick for support, as other supports have both poke and sustain, but he'll surely be a fair pick depending on the situation.

In all honesty support Darius works, so this guy should have no problem.

His support kit works fine, I gone down a more selfsubstain mana route. Heres the link

An edit while loading: His kit is an heavy poke, medium ranged champions cannot poke him back by the risk of getting hit by more skills.

I feel that he could, but while I haven't played him yet, supposedly he just does shittons of damage. So maybe, but we'll see what happens.

I just like the idea of him as a situational top, actually. Stand back and harass or cs safely against annoying people like Maokai or Lulu or Nid.

One time I playes vs an Azir support. It was torture, we were constantly being pushed under turret. His poke is huge early on, but out of lane phase, he falls off.

People tried it on the PBE and most concluded that it doesn't work very well. I think the main factor was cooldowns? There was something else too, I don't remember what. But several people mentioned Riot designers specifically stating they did not want Azir to be viable as a support. So nobody really expected it to work.
