G2 at MSI, pyke top, and the "exciting" meta of constant fighting.

Watching MSI 2019 I've heard the comentators a handful of times comment that this is "the best competitive meta we've had" and it just makes me laugh, because sure there is a lot more "action" and "excitement" but to me it just highlights how utterly imbalanced this meta is even to the point that even pro play simply consists of near constant fights initiated by the team with the early game/gold/tempo advantage.

The game has devolved to the point where even the highest level of play is just the teams constantly looking for opportunities to outnumber and fight advantageously, objective gameplay is a thing of the past excluding turret plating trades b/c one team dogpiled botlane and the other team dogpiled top. Fight fight fight, hope to snowball and stomp the opponent- just like 90% of soloq games.

There are 2 main champion's I would like to highlight whose strong performances/high priority is easily explained by the meta of constant fighting. First, a champ who was Pick/Ban for I believe the entire tournament (though i may be wrong) Sylas - Now IMO sylas has one of the most overloaded champion kits in the history of league, but i will stick to why he is strong in the "constant fighting" meta, Sylas fits this meta almost perfectly, he can fight at literally any stage of the game with CC, multiple gapclosers, sustain, and the massive utility of being able to steal any enemy champ's ult he is supercomfortable even from behind fighting from a 2v2 to a 5v5 and everything in between. Sylas was so successful at constantly fighting that by the end of the tournament players were running Conqueror on him for the extra sustain/power in extended fights.

The second champ is one I was surprised was overlooked for so much of the tournament, considering how absolutely perfect his kit is for the meta of constant fighting, as showcased by G2: Pyke . Pyke is perfect for the current team deathmatch meta, especially as a solo laner (allows him to scale actually have items and levels), because his kit screams "all i want to do is fight, repeatedly" A hook/slow, Camo and MS for setups/escapes, a dash/aoe stun, and a resetting aoe execute ult, that kit basically screams "i want to roam as much as I can hook someone and kill them" and that is what G2 did, Wunder roamed heavily on pyke, pyke and sylas were at all the fights and shocker G2 won skirmishes repeatedly and stomped.

The game currently encourages constantly fighting the enemy team far too much, IMO it detracts from the strategic elements of the game to the point where by the end of MSI i was groaning b/c of the constant fighting, there was no longer any "excitement" to be had from it despite the casters shouting. Maybe that is simply my view as a former starcraft player as well as an MMO player who came to league in season 6 but also really enjoyed season 7. I also just wish the "deathball and go to each lane to stomp that enemy laner" ""STRATEGY"" was not what appeared to bring success in 9/10 solo Q games. The current state of league makes me sad.

IDK, you seem to be cherrypicking.... A LOT

TL beat IG with conventional Draft and not going mad into fights (because the didn't stand a chance at outplaying their enemies 1v1)

SKT got G2 to game point, playing traditional comps too.

Sure TL vs G2 was a stomp (or rather 3 stomps) but that is to be expected when TL had 0 gameplan if their 1st draft failed.

Of course this is being downvoted. I said the same thing about MSI before it even ended. Riot has systematically removed tactics and strategy from the game in favor of a death-match type game. It is a horrible version of League of Legends and is demonstrably the lowest skill-level meta that has ever existed.

The casters are doing their job because Riot has put their foot down. If you want some examples, last year and even earlier this year, casters were very critical of bad meta decisions made by Riot. Over time, this faded away. Casters are no longer as free to criticize Riot about the absolutely garbage meta choices.

This post will get a lot of downvotes and a lot less attention than it deserves because a lot of players want League to be a death-match rather than tactical gameplay. Too bad Riot has no integrity left and will not keep this the game it was before. Instead, we have Call of Duty 2.0 AKA, League of Legends in modern day.

Well said my friend.

"Fight, fight and fight some more" seems to be the narrative these days.

At least these fights rely on outplays and skill matchups rather than waiting for your Cait/Sivir/Trist to right click the enemy team to win.
