Jumping through those dreadful Bronze Divisions(V-I), 5v5 League Ladders and increasing your MMR.

Dear All,

I have created this thread to share some tips with you on how to move up from those dreadful Bronze Div V and IV, that you might be struggling to get out of..

  1. GET A DECENT NUMBER OF CHAMPIONS (Mid, Jung, Top , Bot and don't forget a support or two) If you are like me and you are also grinding solo queue's because your friends are never available or you just can't wait to play then it is important to factor in the different positions you have to cope with in-game. If you are limited by the number of champions available then you risk loosing the match because you might not be able to bring the champ you wanted. The more champions you have the more alternatives are available to you, therefore even if during the champion select, the enemy team banns your champion, then you can immediately resort to the other champs and this will ensure that your performance is not jeopardised.

  2. DO NOT WASTE TIME WITH QUEUE and CHAMP SELECT Having done tonnes of solo queues I can say that support and fill roles come with near instant (match-found) triggers, while if you choose Mid or Jung positions when you queue then you can expect 3-4minutes average on normal day, on a busy day it can go from 5-15minutes. In addition to the time spent in champion select!! Recently, I have noticed the lack of players that wish to take up other positions than their usual. This is a major problem, if you wish to become a better players and reach your desired goal then you need to make sure you can play in any lane. You have to be comfortable in all the different positions and lanes because based on my personal experience when you solo queue you can actually end up in a different lane/positions from what you originally chose. I believe that if you really wish to move through the ladders FAST then you do not want to waste time by having to queue for 10 minutes (Time of queue for average Mid or Jung player, which includes the time spent in champion select on a normal evening)

  3. MAKE SURE YOUR TALENTS ARE SOUND (TOP-NOTCH) and YOU HAVE PROPER RUNES.

I have seen a huge number of players neglecting this and not having enough pages in your rune book is detrimental. As basic you should make sure you have runes for both Ability Power champs and Attack Damage champs. It is vital you have the right runes for the right champions so take a look around and try to come up with your own combination that suits your champions. If you create 2 general Rune pages that fit your champions then you do not need to purchase thousands of different runes. Make sure you buy Tier 3 runes.

  1. DO NOT WORRY YOURSELF IF YOU LOOSE --> Taking a short-break could result in a hot streak. summoner 6 [zombie-brand-facepalm]

I can recall numerous times the feeling of loosing match after match, and I am sure you know there is nothing worse than when you do your part but your team mates do not deliver. I found that taking a break can result in miracle game play. Now you might wonder .. WAIT WHAT? I WANNA PLAY BACK2BACK because I wanna move through to Challenger.... I say hold your horses... there is a time for everything. Sports can greatly improve your concentration, endurance and general health which help you cope with game stress. I do several sports, which I found could be translated into game play if I really think about it. Take for example, motocross, there you have to be fast, confident, controlled and must have endurance and strength to sustain the ride. It is the same in LoL. After a short-break you actually feel ready to hit the right buttons and reach that enemy nexus.

  1. DON'T BE AFRAID TO LEAVE YOUR LANE

I play Middle as my main, and I constantly help in places where I see my team is lacking or a player is weaker. If you can move through the map smartly. Watch the mini-map in the bottom corner and try to stop fast appearing enemy players. If you can do this comfortably you can start to look towards being able to carry your team mates.

  1. SOLO QUEUE ? Damn. C'mon maaan join me! Malphite

After good games, ones where you end up winning under 20 minutes you feel like now is the time to rise and shine... If you can grab hold of the good players that come along and try to convince them that it is time to spam those queues and clock those winnings. I mostly end up being able to grab hold of 2 or 3 players after a good game to queue again. This is enough to succeed, worse case scenario you carry 1 player. Solo is sometimes daunting you never know who you end up with in a team combination, especially in bronze div V and IV. There is such a pool of different players. You can sometimes end up with the ones that go AFK after 1 minute, sometimes those that keep Disconnecting all the way through, sometimes you get the nerdRage troll players, and sometimes you get very decent friendly awesome players that are as good or better than you. So try to stick with those that are good.

  1. DO NOT QUEUE WITH RANDOM PEOPLE ON YOUR FRIENDS LIST

When I was back in Bronze 5 I had always added all players of my team after every match so I ended up with having completely random players who I did not know if were good or bad. The worst mistake you can do is queue with these people again and then you realise once again these are not the players who you thought they were. Be BOLD and queue SOLO read 5. if you haven't already ;)

  1. GOT SKINS? GET SKILLS.

So you have chosen those few champs that you feel you 'clicked' with? Oh, that Ahri the perfect match?! :D If you made the effort to spend money on this game then make sure you actually know that champion inside out, tried different builds, talents and strategies. Personally when I see a skin I expect some sort of expertise and professionalism from that player, it almost immediately alerts me to keep focused and be calm and not over aggressive when pushing lanes.

  1. ANALYSE OTHER PRO/SEMI-PRO and GOOD PLAYER's Profiles.

Right, so we all seen that guy who had Creep Score of 399 or 450 with 34kills/5 deaths and 48 assists? I have. You should spend time examining their champion choices, their builds, runes, their movements on the grid, match history, and match analysis (the different positions on the map where the player made a kill or died or took a tower and so on. Look, Cover and COPY!

You can also learn a lot by watching YouTube videos and adopt that 'pro' style thinking.

  1. BE CONSISTENT

Never give up, if you really want it go and spend time in the game. This is a strategy game you keep learning constantly everyday, there is not 1 match where there is a same story. Its all new. Everytime!. There isn't a golden ratio for this, you need to experience more and more to climb those ladders. So do not expect to move through from Bronze to Silver overnight..

  1. LISTEN TO FAST PACED MUSIC? (From Deep house to Classical)

YES. Although, as much as some of you might laugh, but classical music helps to really focus and be strategic in nerve wrecking situations.

  1. I WILL NOT TALK TECHNICAL ( There is no need to brag about your Razer built PC and keyboard ...)

Clearly you cannot succeed today on a Windows 1998 PC if you are serious about moving up in the ladders in LoL. Buy a PC that suits you. Performance requirement is quite low, a Mac or any other PC with a normal game card is enough. Of course, if you have a lot of money to blow and you are a baller you can get custom made and "100000k FPS and 0 MS".

  1. YOU LAGGIN'? DON'T QUEUE.

Simple. Its in the title. If you have a bad connection you cannot perform well. You simply will not be able to poke and team fights will be impossible because your screen will freeze. If you are lagging and you are desperate to play and learn then queue normal games or Co-Op where there is no consequence of loosing.

  1. DON'T PLAY ALL DAY ALL NIGHT

If you have common sense you should know your limits and be rational. You should never neglect your own health or your obligations. Stay in school! :)
