Can someone explain to me the point of Cull?

I literally never ADC, so I didn't realize until recently exactly the wording of the Cull item, and its a little confusing. I always understood it to be an item you buy, kill a bunch of minions, then get burst of gold, but reading it for myself it doesn't make sense. The item costs 450g, and gives 1 extra gold per minion kill, then 350 bonus gold after 100cs soooo at the end of it you just get 450gold, the initial cost of the item. What am I missing, this item makes no sense.

The item provides:

  • 100 Gold from last-hitting minions
  • 350 Gold when it completes
  • 180 Gold for selling the item

It provides useful stats for the laning phase (AD + on-hit heal) and it can be sold for a profit afterwards (giving you a boost towards your next item).

That's still 450 gold more than you get from a Dorans Sword.

If you have a matchup where you are not likely to kill the other laner and focuss on minions It lets you finish your first big item faster.

It's good for a lane where you're behind since the sustain helps you stay alive better and you don't lose anything. Also, when you sell the item, you make a 180 gold profit.

if you have a easy lane, build cull early means you will have a huge spike of gold once you finish it, and you will stay very healthy in an already favourable lane.

You get the stats from it and a profit of 180 gold when it's complete if you choose to sell.
