Any word on a voice-chat system?

Hoping to get a dev response on this - has there been any discussion or progress on a voice chat system for league of legends? The biggest reason I get frustrated at the game is usually due to lack of communication - it's so much harder to make simple plays or strategies in soloq when you have to rely on typing and rudimentary pings to communicate. A reliable, in-game voice chat service, I think, would make the game a better place.

Here's hoping for a response!

They discussed this a little less than a year ago. http://forums.na.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=4639545&page=31#post48089160

TL;DR, don't expect it, causes more problems than it solves.

short answer: Won't happen

Long answer: Can't find the exact quote atm, but Riot has come out and said they prefer to have players use third party VoiP's because that will naturally restrict you to talking with people you know already. That and keeping the VoiP issue as opt-in through third party services means that the many, many people that don't have the capability or peripherals (headset, mic, etc.) won't be flamed for 'refusing to communicate properly'.

Last I heard, there was a larger percentage of the community that was neutural/against the idea of a built in voice chat than pro built in voice chat. At least that's the statistics that Lyte threw around.

I personally don't want to hear the demeaning language that this community is likely to spew out over an in game voice chat. I don't start my games assuming my teammates will be jerks by any means, and that tendency leads me to normally not mute people in the hope they'll turn around or say something helpful in chat. I'm fairly certain i'd feel obligated to treat voice chat the same way, and would be a bit reluctant to mute people.

Also, voice chat with strangers in League doesn't seem as helpful as you'd think. I've played with strangers for some tournaments, and we've used Teamspeak there, and you spend the whole time trying to match voice with name. It's much easier to be on voice chat with friends, as you already know their voice and what champion they are, so when they say "I" or "me" you know who that is.

TL:DR; Don't want built in voice chat.

Use curse voice m8, functions just as well as an in game mic and people can decide whether or not they want to use it.

I read Riot's response concerning voice chat and all the research they have done into the effect on the community (I think in a reddit post). Currently they prefer people use third party solutions since those apps are optional for players and result in less toxicity in the community.

I think all the voice chat solutions out there are pretty antiquated though. You should check out Discord (discordapp.com). It's still in beta, but already is much more advanced than apps like Curse Voice, Teamspeak, or Ventrilo.
