I'm Confused

I'm trying to play gp, but i never get fed on him and i always do bad, even against bad players even tho im lvl. 4. However, there was another gp on the enemy team, carries his feeding team in silver while only being 3/3 in lane. Is it just luck because the gp went against a poppy that wasn't doign anything or am i just bad compared to him?
