Why do we have promotional games?

If i manage to grind up to 100 lp, why do i have to play another 2 games (or sometimes 3) just to get the promotion that i already earned. I dont know if its just me, but these promotional games seem like an outdated system.

(and more often than not, my losing streaks seem to start at my promo games)
