blitz/morgana can take you far and thresh becomes very easy after enough plays with him.

a few things i recommend are watching minion health, knowing when your combo can secure a kill, effective use of exhaust and wards, and most importantly how to be useful after the lane phase. Try not to get caught out late as you will most likely be an easy kill.

Add me in game if you want to practice

Haven't really played any of the champs you mentioned. Thresh is difficult to pick up yes, but he can be rewarding if used correctly.

Braum is somewhat comp reliant. I get frustrated when no one on the team auto attacks the target, when you rely on that for your hard CC. You also pick Braum to counter poke comps. That's the best use of your unbreakable.

Personally, My two favorite supports are Karma and Sona. Sona at least is pretty easy to pick up, and both can do fair amount of damage. Tanky supports usually give you less flexibility in being an off carry, So I usually only pick them if I can trust my team. Though they can usually to the supports role better. (with more survivability anyway.)

Well...

  1. Rework your masteries. Have one for every support you intend to play.
  2. Ask ADC mains what they feel a support should really do to contribute to the team. 3)Soraka

I find myself playing Off carry supports like Annie Blitzcrank Rumble Brand . It seems to be a growing trend for the support role these days--going off carry rather than hard support and seems to be relatively effective at LEAST in casual pub games.

But otherwise i think Sona Soraka Lulu Nami are the relatively the best for beginner hard supports because their utility is unparallelled.

Morgana is very good too, but as someone mentioned she can be mana hungry. I use flat mana blues for when i play her usually--it gives you maybe 2-3 extra bindings to fire before her base mana pool would normally run out. But people new to her ALWAYS forget to black shield their Carry before initiating or peeling. It's really frustrating playing with a morgana that never black shields you at least when you really need it.

Nami is especially very underrated right now i feel. She's still so strong in lane with her utility but she seems to be almost forgotten.

Early game youre just there to provide protection for your ADC. People think you NEED to be aggressive; you NEED to always harass your opponent to BE a support, but sometimes youre not able to. More than anything youre just their to protect your ADC when they need it and make sure they survive long enough to compile a meaningful amount of farm. If youre ADC is good enough to stay alive without you, you can roam to other lanes or help your jungler counter jungle or gank too occasionally.

Late game your job is to peel and initiate. It doesn't matter if you die if it means your team comes out on top of a skirmish. I love it when people use a fair amount of time and resources to kill me if it means i can feed one of my carries a kill or two in exchange. At this point warding SHOULD also be a team effort because you can only have a total of 4 wards on the map at any one time and that can only cover but so many areas that one person can monitor.

If your poison if playing off carry support, then you want to think of it as supporting through applying massive damage and chunking heavier or healing even harder than you otherwise would by going hard support which can be just as preferable. You build damage items just as you would in a solo lane carry position but off your passive and assist gold. Depending on how well the game is going it can take a long or short amount of time to complete damage items.

I hope i explained this well in my own words. Im not as good as explaining things as the rest of the people here, but maybe my post will give you at least a little fat to chew that could help you out :D

Blitzcrank can occasionally win botlane just by standing in a bush and existing. Merely the threat of the grab causes opponents to zone themselves.

I main Morgana Support. Here's why you should too:

  • She's strong in lane She chunks really well with her QW, plus she has passive spell vamp. At lvl 16, she has 20% spell vamp, which means as long as you hit your Q, you will never die.

  • Her snare is outrageous extremely long snare time (longest in the game, i've heard) means that your ADC will love you for feeding them

  • Black Shield This shield blocks all forms of CC and a crapload of Magic damage. That Thresh hook? Nope. Blitz pull? Please. Annie stun? Not even close. Slows, Snares, Suppresses, Silences, you name it, Black Shield will block it. Which means, come late game, you can be the difference between winning and getting aced. Which is what it means to be a support.

  • Her Ult Her ult is tricky. If used properly, you can catch multiple enemies out of position, either forcing them to burn summoners or stunning them. It works especially well when used with her snare, for TONS Of DAMAGE and extra health for you. But if they escape your ult, you kind of become useless in terms of AoE damage for the entire team.

Downside: There are 2 major downsides to playing her as support. 1) She's extraordinarily mana hungry. She's like the 1987 Impaler of Mana-guzzling champions. She has to be, because her entire play revolves around that Q-W combo. 2) She was originally built to be a mid laner, which means that her damage comes from AP. Now they're making some nice steps towards creating AP items for support. ROA is always nice, or the Rylais for the health and to apply the slow to your W. But you'll be sacrificing some of the more support based buys early like item 3301 , item 3092 , or even item 3097 . She is a great support pick, but if you cant hit your snare, your lane might be doomed.

As for champs, I would add some sort of sustainment style support into the mix. I would look into champs like sona, nami, and soraka. They are very nice to have in a heavy poke comp in the bot lane. Otherwise, I personally like the heavy engage style supports such as Braum, Thresh, Leona, and Naut.

If you are a support main, I believe Thresh is a champion you must know. He is a top tier support for a reason. Thresh gives you the ability to play multiple play styles and one of the few supports that can get teammates out of a bind without placing yourself at risk.

Supports will always carry :)***

My top three are:

Thresh: Easy to Learn, Hard to Master You never feel so good as pulling a teammate to safety with your Dark Passage right before he dies, and denying the kill. Or throwing that predictive Death Sentence that blindly catches someone over a wall and out of sight, or at their Flash/dash arrival point instead of where they left. Or Flaying back a Trist/Jax/Kha, etc as they try to jump onto your ADC. Nobody makes you feel pro like Thresh does :)

Janna: The Queen of Peel Your passive speeds nearby teammates and you have _ three_ abilities that peel. Not to mention a shield that both protects them and seriously buffs their AD, and with Ardent Censer, also buffs their AS and adds magic damage. Also an ult that can heal your entire team, or peel, or split their team, or position specific enemies. (Flash-Ult as the gank is coming to push ADC/Supp towards your turret for example) And it always feels good to Howling Gale a Lucian/Katarina/Velkoz etc just as they start their ult.

Braum: The Ultimate Denier Aw, you want to ult my whole team Lux/Draven/Ez, etc? Nope. Stop throwing fishies at my carries, Fizz. No ult killing blow for you Caityn/Jinx /Lucian. Blocking ultimates with your Unbreakable is always so satisfying. Your team showers you with praise while the enemy sulks in a corner. But you also have a great peel and chase tool in your Winter's Bite. Slow them as well as apply a stack of your passive, so your teammates can follow up with autos and stun them. Your Glacial Fissure interrupts and slows and can be used for peel or initiation. Your Stand Behind Me is a great tool for positioning, and as a bonus, increases both your and your target's MR and Armor.

Zileans isn't the strongest support right now but he's pretty simple: land the stun and ult the important people. Tahm just needs to devourer his team and his enemies. Thresh takes some practice. Quick tip, use flay to start fights if you can get in range for it. Makes landing death sentence much easier. Blitzcrank only needs to grab. Just use him to pressure lanes when you can. Braum is really and not all that team combo reliant as someone else said. His goal is to land concusive blows and protect his team. Reacting in time to use your shield is important. He's good at starting fights.

There are some really good guides and videos online to help you out. Just do a search.
