Non-support gold income

If you're losing lane because the enemy laner is just THAT aggressive and keeps you out of lane (example would be a melee champ vs a ranged) do you think its worth grabbing a first tier gold income item? This ONLY applies to soloque btw, I understand that if you're losing the jg needs to help or something like that, but lets face it sometimes you get a crappy team. In these situations, do you think its viable?
