How's Renekton?

I don't see him anymore. Top lane is filled with lane bullies and ticking time bombs. Where I used to get my opponents to pick Renek they now pick Sion or Gnar instead. The gator has been out of favor for a long time and his job seems to be taken by champions with actual presence late game. Can Renek find new life in a new lane or does he need some love? I've played a lot against him but I've never played him. Are there any Renek mains out there still?

He's still fun, but it's difficult to find a team builder game as a top lane Renekton. Long queue.

i've had a lot of success with renekton as a mage killer, in teams that run AP top, jungle and mid, you can be a monster by getting merc threads, maw of malmortius and spirit visage as your first items, and only really needing sunfire to not be too squishy to the only AD threat (that with maw and sunfire you can beat up depending on which AD it is)

also since his fury changes, with maw of malmortius and AD runes, you heal for almost 120 per champion hit with your empowered Q, which is massive in clumped up teamfights (and against low sustained damage such as not having an ADC clobbering you down with autos all fight long)
