Graves Smokescreen = silence?

I had 4 out of 5 stacks for my revive as Aatrox. Graves and Sion tower diving me, I get smoke screened, and press R to ult...and nothing happens.

I'm sorry, but why hell would graves smoke screen stop Aatrox from casting Massacre?
