Let's make it clear, and think
I'm making this post because while going through the posts, i've seen loads of people complaining about the tanks falling low, the AP casters being too op right now, and all kind of generalities always backed-up by : Come on, look at the win rate/ban rate/pick rate/whatever rate.
The thing is, people only interprete these numbers the way they "like it" -> omg this champion has 53% ban rate, it is op, nerf!
What is needed to make a good analysis of these numbers is firstly a global understanding of the changes that made these numbers happen. And by global I mean to gather all the informations before jumping to conclusions.
SO! What happenned with the arrival of pre-season that could change drastically the individual power of champions?
We have :
- ADCs reworks
- Masteries reworks
- AD items changes
Now, what kind of notable boosts can these changes bring to the champions and make them stronger than others?
The masteries:
- A nice boost to crit-based champions
- An even better boost to dot-reliant champions
ADCs:
- Well ADCs are stronger now and rely more on their spells
AD items:
- A lot of new and pretty much better crit items
- changes to armor penetration
From here, we can already tell that ADCs, dot-reliant AP casters and crit-based champions did get a decent boost.
Now, we get to the important point! What is needed now is to look for the effects of these changes on the other kinds of champions.
The masteries:
- Well ,some champions have better synergies than others with the masteries but nothing general here. It makes some champions get out of the locker and locks some others in.
ADCs:
- the support meta changes to match better with the new playstyle of ADCs
AD items:
- Well, to put it simply, AD casters got nerfed quiet bad. The AD was lowered on the big AD items, and armor penetration is harder to get, for less efficiency. Lastly, last-whisper's rework hurt AD assassins bad.
Now, we know that AD casters are not in good shape, and supports tend to be different ones, we are getting there!
Lastly, let's just think about the relations these differents "types" of champions have between them.
I will give general relations, they don't apply to every champion, and champions can fit in more than just one of these "types". Plus, only **individual **power will be taken into account (to simplify it).
USUALLY :
-
ADC > tank/bruiser
-
ADC = AP caster
-
ADC < Assassin
-
AP caster < assassin
-
AP caster = tank/bruiser
-
AP caster = ADC
-
Assassin > AP caster
-
Assassin > ADC
-
Assassin < tank/bruiser
-
Tank/bruiser = AP caster
-
Tank/bruiser < ADC
-
Tank/bruiser > assassin
What's the point of this? Well, right now ADCs are doing well, AP casters are kind of good too, tanks/bruisers are not as powerfull as last season because ADCs got buffed. AND! As assassins are doing not so well, AP casters and ADCs are even more buffed which is the "final answer" of all this talk.
If it feels like tanky champions are falling behind while ADCs and AP casters are so strong, it's because of two reasons:
- The previously mentionned changes on masteries
- The assassins being bad right now (I mean AD casters by the way)
So why? What are the practical reasons? Well, playing AD caster top while tanks and bruisers are doing well isn't the best of ideas, you have no chances of getting kills and you will get zoned Mid lane is harder than ever against AP casters, you get killed, zoned and outfarmed Jungling is even harder than before because of jungle items changes, giving you less time to do your main job -> ganking lanes.
TO SUM IT ALL UP! As AD casters are doing poorly, ADCs and APCs are less threatened, giving them more space to breathe and more time to be mean to bruisers and tanks.
I hope i didn't say anything completely wrong, and that my english is not too bad.
Feel free to criticize, as long as you answer smartly and by developping your ideas.
