Camouflage shouldn't just be a mechanic for Assassins, it should be used more in other classes.

Foreword: I use stealth and camouflage interchangeably in this post even though stealth in actuality is not the same as camouflage. Just know that when I talk about stealth, I refer to camouflage and not invisibly of the kind that Khazix has on his ult.

I understand that THEMATICALLY, stealth makes the most sense on Assassin champions. But gameplay-wise these mechanics end up being incredibly difficult to balance on Assassins. They rely on taking out single targets quickly, and the best Assassins have the least amount of counterplay possible. Having stealth automatically decreases counterplay massively, in that wards and other ways to see the champion coming are ineffective, letting them get right up into melee range so they can oneshot you. Because of this, camouflage mechanics need to be balanced with huge delays either during the stealth or after, which makes the stealth feel too weak, like you are yelling out a big warning sign to your opponent to GTFO. Case in point Rengar and to a lesser extent, Evelynn. Rengar pre-rework was cancerous to play against because his engage had practically no counterplay other than buy a lot of pink wards. Post rework Rengar on the other hand has his ultimate with a massive warning sign for the entire team, that also tells you where he's coming from if you have multiple people around due to the proximity effect on it. This leads to the ultimate being incredibly frustrating to use effectively as a gapcloser especially in a grouped environment. That's why people like to call it "Thrill of the Zoning" now. As for eve, I think it's too early to come up with a conclusion about whether or not this champion is bad because I've heard conflicting arguments about whether or not she's really good or really bad, but her stealth does have a massive warning sign in the form of her charm that also tells you what directions she's coming from. That seems really "not-stealthy" for a stealth mechanic.

So if stealth is so polarizing on Assassins, why not just try it on different types of champions then? Old eve kind of had the theme of being the stealth diver, although it got removed in the rework and with good reason. Twitch's Q is just straight up a better ability than Rengar's ultimate in almost every way, but it's balanced because Twitch is an ADC so he can't use the stealth as well, since if he's still a squishy ADC who will pop in an instant when caught (or at least he's supposed to.) Stealth will always be a mechanic to give a champion a more pick based Assassin style playstyle, but putting that on top of other Assassin mechanics ends up putting those champions into a precarious balance position where one tip of the scale will knock them into the frustrating to play or frustrating to play against valleys. But putting those mechanics on non-assassins lets the stealth actually feel much more stealthy while being more fair. Here's some ideas I have for some stealth based champions in different roles.

#Concepts

A Native/Gorilla Juggernaut who has fair limited stealth mechanics that he'd need to use in order to try to reach the backline. His stealth would probably involve covering himself with leaves and other things to "camoflague" and as such his stealth would probably be very limited but if he get's up to your ADC, he'll be a monster, just like any good Juggernaut. He probably wouldn't have any other gap closer in his kit as a result, and if he does have CC, it'd be a very limited slow. His stealth isn't going to be Twitch or even Eve levels of good, but it should be decent enough that it allows him to make some tricksy plays and get onto the backline. Maybe when he stealths himself he has to crawl very slowly as to not reveal himself, and as such he gets a big movespeed penalty until unstealthed.

A Diver with some kind of stealth kind of like old Eve but with a more cohesive kit. Stealth is much more healthy on Divers since they can have slower burst windows to compensate for tankiness. It'd definitely have a playstyle similar to an Assassin but slower burst windows and more escape ability. It could even be possible to make this into some kind of sustain damage champ.

A Skirmisher with stealth. This could be anything, like some lost member of Zed's clan or some undead ninja warrior or whatever. It'd be some kind of toplane splitpusher not unlike Yasuo in that he'd be squishy and melee, but he wouldn't have insane mobility nor would he have a windwall. Having stealth in lane like toplane Eve isn't necessarily toxic design since you still have a good idea of where said champion is, so maybe this champion could have some sort of powerful in lane stealth, like old eve. More of a splitpush type champion with a focus on ambushes, roams, and dastardly escapes thanks to stealth.

A catcher with some limited stealth ability. This one might end up terrifying and it may end up being too hard to balance as a result, but I think it can be done if executed well. I'm thinking closer to a champion like Rakan rather than someone like Thresh. It could even end up being another Jungle support in the same vein as Ivern. I do feel like the idea of jungling supports isn't a bad one and champions like Nunu have existed long before Ivern with the same kind of concept, just a poor execution.

A stealth Vanguard. This champion would have an ability like Alistar's Q, except much stronger and a bigger AOE. the problem is that in order to use it, the champion would have to flank around and use stealth to get onto the backline, like an Assassin. Except instead of being rewarded with damage, this champ would be rewarded with AOE CC for getting to the ADC.

A stealth mage. I don't really like this concept that much, since the end result would feel a lot like an Assassin except with lots of range. I'd say proceed with caution if you want to pursue this design.

Twitch His design has some cool ideas, but it can be executed better. He has too much AOE damage for an ADC and his range is really long. Combine that with the support having to peel and basically be Twitch's Bitch (pun intended), Twitch basically ends up playing like an Artillery ADC like Kog'maw rather than the sneaky trickster ADC that he should be. Twitch should be rewarded for good flanks, and punished for staying behind 5 tanks like any old ADC. He'd need to keep the extra range from his ult to be able to flank safely, but the AOE damage would need to go. May I suggest moving Twitch more towards being a strong early/mid game champion that falls off? I know that this might piss off a lot of people, but I feel like it would help towards making Twitch much more healthy and unique instead of his current generic hyper-range AOE carry design.

#TL;DR: Riot should try putting camouflage on more roles rather than making a mechanic mainly exclusive to Assassins outside of a few exceptions. Stealth is too difficult to balance on Assassins but it can work on other roles to give them an Assassin-like flair while also being more fair and easy to balance than on actual Assassins.

I know it would be op but I always thought ivern should have had a camouflage atleast when he was in the jungle atleast when he stood still.

You know being a giant tree and all that.
