New Support Items - 40% CDR + 5% CDR Intelligence Mastery - Alistar Windbreaker?

Hi Team,

I am really excited about these support item updates from patch 7.12, making CDR and tank stats readily available.

I want the communities opinion about using Alistar Alistar and Windspeaker's Blessing. Locket of the Iron Solari got a little bit of nerf for supports (seems to be more for top tanks now) and I know that the conventional Keystone for Alistar is CoC, but would Windspeaker's now be more viable as an off Locket substitute in build path (also allowing for 5% CDR with Intelligence)?

Locket building is delayed to make it as comparable to what it was (see link).

I feel like its a personal/situation decision of course. It's also a question of Alistar's own tankiness vs potential team tankiness?

How often can you proc Alistar's passive in team fights to benefit from the heal buff+states from Windbreaker's (more than once in 30 secs - compared to CoC max shield CD)?

Addition: I think the first comment from Chaddy (below) is another point, is Stonebond maybe going to replace CoC too?

Appreciate the communities time and insight!!!

No it as buffed for tank support.] Supports have more wide access to HP than toplaners after the Tank update, because of stoneborn and their itemisation.

I think they are all still good in their own way. Which one is better depends on the champ you're playing and your playstyle as well as itemization.

  • CoC would still be good on Alistar because the shield is still fairly strong and in a team fight only adds to your tankiness as well as for tankiness in lane.

  • Windspeakers is a tough choice on Alistar because of the nature of his passive. So it is less reliable on a mechanical level than it would be with some of the items, like redemption and Mikaels etc, so it feels like more of a passive option

  • Stoneborn Pact is probably what you should be taking on most support tanks with cc since it adds to your whole teams sustain without taking away too much from you. It's also really good on Alistar especially if you grab the new zekes and ult while combo-ing :)

Personally, I'm still a fan of CoC on Alistar because I love being the tanky engager and the more tanky I can be, the longer I can stay in without dying. It also works so well with locket. Tbh I don't see any of those options not being viable on alistar, it's really all in how you play it
