Confessions of a mage main.
DISCLAIMER: I'm about as biased as it gets and I'm openly admitting it. So let's get on with the show.
I don't think that mages should be better than assassins in terms of dueling and laning prowess because they have so much going for them with waveclear and zoning if they're playing right. Except Akali. Akali can go to hell.
That being said I don't think assassins are nearly the disgusting outplay mahcines people make them out to be. Freeze on your side and most of them can't fight you.
I know Ahri is, statistically speaking, good right now but she doesn't feel strong to me at all.
The problem with Hexdrinker is that for it's spike in damage it also gives a fair amount of defense and an amazing passive. Couple that with the tendency of ADs to go all in and it makes it very difficult to fire back, even if they misstep. Couple that with Corki and it's a downright joke. Seeker's doesn't give that much of a powerspike until it's completed.
Edge of Night isn't actually bad for mids late-game. It's bad mid-game because they're still trying to put together their items and they will have to sacrifice damage to compensate but late-game if that's the problem you've got other issues.
I. Hate. Miss Fortune. And Cassiopeia. Two separate reasons.
The trick to winning is to strike a perfect balance (ganking vs. farming, aggressive vs. defensive, etc) in your gameplay. The problem most players have is they're incapable of doing one thing without completely throwing the other aside.
I like that they're lowering overall damage. It hurts the early game and people past that who need to burst in specific windows. That means Maokai will have a harder time 100-0'ing you (not sure why that's a thing anyways) and so will supports. This is also a buff to traditional crit adcs because they buy lifesteal (their window for getting bursted is lower now) and they will have less competition for their job as DPS.
Yasuo should've never been made. I'm glad he's weak right now.
Jayce should've gotten his cannon form nerfed, not the hammer.
And finally I think that people who complain about traditional bruisers' viability are like the same people who complain about keeping traditional APs good (mid Brand, anyone?) as well as the Morde mains. I get where they're coming from but HOT DAMN talk about something else for once.
