Suggestion: Let's add a latency meter/indicator to the launcher...
Now more than ever I see players linking their Ping in team chat. Many of these players were unaware of a sudden internet issue prior to queueing but are now having the issue in game and can't play. At best they reset router, etc. and are out of the game for 5+ minutes, and at worst the issue causes a disconnect, many times a permanent one giving them a leave and usually it's a loss for his/her team. Regardless, in League, every second counts especially early game.
Could we get a latency meter/indicator added into the launcher that pings the game server, to show GREEN, YELLOW, RED latency (as well as the number in milliseconds)?
This would be visible to players queueing and alert them of latency conditions so they can choose not to queue, or try and resolve their issues prior. This has tremendous advantages, and a player will eventually learn their 'normal' latency , and what's out of the ordinary even helping them alert their provider of issues. Also there could be a checkbox and configurable number to alert if latency is higher than X, to prompt when queueing. i.e. latency alert is set to 500ms, "Your latency is higher than the threshold you set, are you sure you want to queue?". Since it would be adjustable by the player, they can control this alert. If this isn't a good idea, at least have the indicator in the launcher!
Until then, a tool you can use to check latency is to ping a website (google in this example). Open a command prompt by typing "cmd" in the run/search box (windows PCs). Type ping www.google.com -t and press enter. From there look at the 'time' of each ping in ms. This is your latency to this site. Some sites are not able to be pinged.
Tell me what you think? Good idea?
