A question about MMR, and some stuff I've learned

I'd like to know how to raise my MMR. Someone told me that winning a bunch of games consecutively can raise your MMR. But I'm not sure. I'm sort of surprised that my MMR isn't higher. I currently have a 60% win rate out of 120 ranked matches. I'm 22 games in the positive, and my MMR still hovers around average to 50 points or so above average. I climbed from Bronze lll - Silver ll with very little to no issues. I'm actually excited to hit a "wall" so I can begin learning more about the game. Flying through Silver hasn't been teaching me very much. I think my previous rank at the end of the last season was low, so I'm guessing that might have effected it.

I wanted to also talk about a few things that I've learned, that some people still truly, genuinely, honestly believe.

"I'm stuck in bronze, my teams are garbage and I can't carry them. I'm stuck in elo hell"

ELO

HELL

DOES

NOT

EXIST

I was this type of player for a long time. To the very core of my heart I believed I was just insanely unlucky. I felt like the only person who got bad teams. Eventually though, I realized that I was just straight up bad at the game. (I still am, but I've improved GREATLY compared to before). I'm going to give a few tips to players who can't get out of bronze or silver.

  1. Expect nothing from your team. If you expect a great team, you'll just tilt off the planet if you get trolls and unskilled players. This doesn't mean you should be toxic. It means if you expect great, and you get bad, it'll feel worse.

  2. Always think everyone on your team is garbage, and YOU have to carry the game. Don't say what you're thinking, but just know it's up to YOU to carry those games. Use chat to communicate what the next move should be. Try to take an assertive (not toxic) leader type role in the team. I often have people calling me "dad" because I grab the game by the balls.

  3. Accept the fact that you can't get out of bronze/silver because you suck. (I get I'm still in silver, but I'm going to be out soon)

  4. Some games are impossible to win. Everyone has them. (Guy running down mid for 20 minutes, multiple D/C's on your team, someone picking Urgot)

  5. Honestly, don't surrender. I've won countless games coming from a HUGE deficit. A lot of players get way too cocky when they're ahead, and throw games pretty often. Take advantage of that carelessness.

  6. Objectives, objectives, objectives. All to often my team and I kill 3 of the enemy team on 30-40 death timers, and my team just chases for kills. That's the single dumbest thing I see. If you have 5 up and the enemy only has 2 up, what does that give you a chance to do? Baron. If Baron isn't up, Dragon. If Dragon isn't up, push waves. If your waves are already pushed up, turrets. If you can't get the turrets, get ward control. If you have ward control, get more. Clear the enemy jungle. Choke them out. That's the most valuable 30-40 seconds you get, and a LOT can be done with it. Right after a good team fight, tell your team to push waves and get some stuff done. K/D/A only goes so far. Making good choices wins games.

  7. If you tilt, stop playing for a few hours. Simply put, you're going to continue losing if you keep playing while tilted.

Well, I guess that's about it. Sorry it was a lot to read. I've just been feeling really good lately about this game. I feel as though I broke some sort of "wall". I've been playing better than I ever have recently.

Thanks for reading!
