Support Solo Queue

-sigh- Where do I even begin... First off does anyone even solo Q support anymore?

Is It a good idea in general? Like for all game modes? (Ranked, Normal, Blind) I personally love support, but only when my ADC is half decent. I feel like a support can't really carry bot lane, unless your ADC is alright. Like for example, there's 10% chance you can win bot lane if your ADC is bad.. So in my opinion. No matter how good you are, you're most likely gonna lose because of your laner? I play supports like blitz Blitzcrank and thresh Thresh (Leona Leona and Tahm Kench TahmKench occasionally) I of course have that friend that I always go bot lane with but.. there are times when he is offline and I wanna play.

So basically what I'm saying is that, I main support, and I love it. But should I continue playing it? Having a bad ADC is so dreadful that at this point I avoid support completely unless I know it's someone decent.... Is there anyone else that feels the same way? Probably not and I'm just being stuck up... But is there any solution to this?

Try playing "win game" supports not "win lane" supports. You will NEVER be tanky enough on a support to soak up the damage you think you need to, so pick champions that have the utility to own teamfights, because in the games where your team doesn't give up, you can dominate teamfights even without damage. Champions like Lulu, Taric, Soraka, Braum and Bard have tremendous utility of some kind that wins teamfights.

Additionally, vision control can win A LOT of games. There are three important things about vision control in low elo. 1) Don't die to place/clear a ward, it may work when you take a risk one time, but you could potentially lose the game every time you try to overextend for it. 2) Prep wards for objectives a minute before they spawn or before the enemy has a chance to mess with you when you get there. Predict what your team is gonna do or shotcall for them (Are we going to take top tower? Let me ward key spots in the jungle so we're not flanked, etc.) 3) Denying vision is MORE IMPORTANT than providing vision. No, this doesn't mean don't buy a sightstone. This means every time your oracle is off CD you use it in a strategic place (or zone at level 9), that you buy a pink ward every time your ward dies. Every blind facecheck the enemy has to make could potentially end the game for them if they die to your whole team right around the corner.

However, please know that you WILL NOT win every game even if you play perfectly. As long as you maintain a 55% win rate across all of your champs, you will climb, slowly but surely

I kind of feel that true full supports fall into the same problem that pure CC low damage tanks do. If your team is not doing well you are useless...

Which in turn makes full supports or pure tanks less viable at low elos. At lower elos you would want to pick something in those positions that would have a little more carry potential, so even if you team isn't doing well, or your ADC is having a bad game you have the potential to pick up that slack. Which is why things like support Veigar, Brand and Zyra are growing more and more popular.

In higher elos, typically the player-base is a little more skilled and know how to better play from behind, so you can find a little more success on pure supports and pure tanks.

I personally wouldn't recommend traditional supporting to climb out of Bronze. You have to rely on your ADC and trust he isn't worse than you; if he's worse then he's going to drag you down and put all your supporting to waste for a good portion of the game. If you play a Support that can carry you'll overpower the enemy that isn't used to a Support like that and it doesn't matter if your ADC sucks because you aren't relying on him. Things like Zyra and Brand which deal out lots of damage because they are mid laners too.

This is just my opinion though, and you'll get the opposite advice from others. Once you climb up a bit you can start trusting your ADC though and you won't have to worry so much about not climbing because he's dragging you down. I was going to main Thresh and Leona until I realized my team would never follow up on my plays in Silver, and only really started climbing when I switched to Nami. Nobody can tell you what works best for you though, you gotta find it.
