The Deathfire Grasp of Marksmen
Back in patch 5.2 when the beloved DFG was removed, Riot's reasoning for it was 2 things:
First, it made
"burst patterns even more bursty"
and second,
"removing this item gives us room to buff champion kits that would otherwise be empowered if they could use DFG."
They used
LeBlanc and
Ahri as examples to their reasonings respectively, and make no mistake that this nerf was targeted towards mage assassins. What came out of the removal of such a popular and crucial item for most mages, was that they had to be more careful with their item-purchasing options because one could no longer double down on full damage (you still could, but it wasn't anything like having DFG).
To summarize: what they did not like about DFG, was that basically any magic damage-dealing champion could pick it up and adopt a burst assassin playstyle.
They wanted to see more variety in the playstyle and item choices of AP based champions "because there's always the 'I can buy DFG' route".
In my opinion, this the removal of DFG was a good thing overall, though I was very sad about it since I did use the item myself.
**Now on to my point: **
Stormrazor
is the DFG of marksmen. It's often the best 1st pick item for any marksman
ahem and a must-have in your ADC kit, with the exception of maybe Ezreal
Any marksman, regardless of what lane he/she is played in, can always just buy Stormrazor
and double down on a playstyle around kiting and chasing down anyone who comes near your attack range.
It doesn't feel like there's much variety in the playstyle's of ADCs because Stormrazor
is the single best item in the game for them, and the most impactful. You may noticed your power spike when you get IE
or PD
3 items into a build and you hit that 75% crit chance. But why would you ever want to wait that long, when you can just buy Stormrazor
and notice the power from it for the entire duration of the match.
Side note: your opponents who are on the receiving end of Stormrazor
can also feel the power. It may be 25% critical strike chance, but it is 100% emotional strike chance.
In my opinion, this item feels like the DFG of Marksmen, and needs to be updated or removed.
Thought's anyone?
now?
