@Lyte, question regarding dodge penalties in the new Champ Select
While I haven't personally had hardly any dodges in my games with the new champion select (READ: I've had less dodges than previously), do you think it would be reasonable to up the penalty for dodging higher than 5 minutes, or would this be an unwise decision?
I ask primarily because a dodge in this new select screen now has much less to do with legitimate confusion and is now more often a result of a conscious decision. For example, previously, If somebody picked a champ without calling a role, there may be confusion about who is going where, which may in turn lead to two people picking the same roll due to a lack of communication. Furthermore, conflicts are no longer (or extremely rarely) about arguments between members as to where they go; the number of "mid or feed" players or players who lock in an ADC regardless of whether or not an ADC has already been chosen are fewer. We are also guaranteed one of our two preferred roles. Because less of these "accidental" situations have been greatly alleviated, this takes out a great many reasons dodging is acceptable.
Now, dodging seems to be along this line of thinking:
- "My champion was banned."
- "The other team took my champion."
- "I don't like what X player is playing." etc.
These are all much more selfish reasons than:
- "Our team accidentally locked in two top laners due to confusion."
- "I can't play this role." (You picked the role yourself before it started)
- General chaos about who goes where. etc.
SO, that said, since the only reasons for dodging have, in theory, shifted from legitimate reasons to selfishness / failure to adapt, would raising the punishment for dodges be reasonable?
Disclaimer: I understand this has been out for two days and we have more pressing issues (bugs, general feedback, etc), and all of this is in theory. But maybe a little down the road, could this be a good idea?
I'd like to get the community in on this discussion as well :)
