Why is W Weak?

Has anyone else noticed that W always (or almost always) has the weakest ability in the entire champions kit? There can be some good abilities on W, but it's always an ability that you'd almost never max first because of it being less useful than other abilities in the kit. Examples such as lux's and garen's and sion's shield, bards, kayles, soraka's, sona's heal(which are about the only time you'd max W because your support anyways), all increased mobility abilities (say that five times fast) ever. Why does riot do this to us? All day I could list "W abilities" and explain how they are the worst abilities in their kit, but I'll let you go and find them all. The only time I've seen a W ability be really important to their kit is azir's, but if you can find any more, let me know.

for the same reason most Shields are on E.

when the same types of abilities are on the same buttons for different champions it is easier to pick up new champs.

So, without counting, I felt that W was the most represented last ability to be maxed, though E was probably real close. Q was way more represented than I thought it would be.

It really depends on the champion.

Xerath's W is maxed 2nd, Aurelion Sol maxes W first, Azir maxes W 2nd, Brand maxes W first, Fizz maxes W 2nd, Soraka maxes W first or 2nd... You get the idea.

More often than not its the utility spell. So you could say its weak in the way that it doesnt do damage, but its often a champs only utility making it actually pretty good.

W spells are usually utility and that's why people usually max them last; not to say they are weak in any way.

Nidalee has it both ways...

her human W (traps) is easily one of the worst abilities that currently exists in league. (i would argue THE worst)

yet her kitty form W (pounce) with her passive and her spear are one of the most vital if not THE parts of her entire kit. id say even more so than her spear

Looking at the Champions page, it does seem like a lot of W abilities are pretty weak or just not that useful. Some that I found that are very useful:

Alistar, Galio, Sivir, Ryze, Shyvana, LeBlanc, Irelia,

ITS BECAUSE W is usually your ring finger and that is your weakest finger on your hand, ask anyone (myself included) about playing guitar and which is the weakest finger to hold down notes, they will say its the ring finger
