A reasonable post about the new Champion Select.

I'm going to play Devil's advocate here and offer some alternate thoughts to the ones that have been hovering around the forums, so hear me out. This thread is designed for people to actually contribute to a reasonable post to have a friendly debate and avoid the "wow wtf you don't know shit" kind of responses. So if you do decide to read this post, read it with an open mind, and try not to be bias (if you already dislike it).

I'll start by saying the most common complaints I see about the new Champion Select are the following:

  1. "I picked my main role and fill, but I want to play ONE role!"

  2. "I don't want to be matched up with a premade group."

  3. "I was matched up against a group of five premades while we were all solo, wtf is this?"

  4. "The premade group I have on my team won't listen/do their own thing!"

Other than this, I haven't seen many other complaints. But are these all such a big issue? I'd like to offer some alternatives to these issues, and solutions that people may have already missed.

  1. "I picked my main role and fill, but I want to/only play ONE role!"

I'm going to be extremely blunt about this one (And I'm sure you'll all insta-downvote after this first argument). If you play one role/champion, are you really playing League of Legends? If I play Singed top and cheese proxy my way to Challenger, does that show my skill, or does it make me "good" at one thing in this game? Riot designed this champion select for people to do a few things. A. Get into games faster (for all ELOs except the top 0.01%) by reducing dodges, fighting for roles, etc B. New champion select lets the system detect trolls more easily. If they're locked in to play support but they choose Riven, the system will easily pick that up. C. Have people learn roles other than one specific champion/map placement. D. At least give you the option to show/choose what you'd like to play. This reduces arguments before the champion selection even begins.

  1. "I don't want to be matched up with a premade group."

How come? In all seriousness, wouldn't you rather be matched up with a group of people on your team (whether they're friends or just League buddies), rather than four random people? At least you know these people have played together before, and are looking to win/have a good time, which already sets the mood more positively than if you had four random people (With a few tilters/trolls/AFKers/rage quitters). As far as you know, unless they state otherwise, you're with four other random people. I honestly can't see why people wouldn't like this (Other than the very rare, occasional troll team).

  1. "I was matched up against a group of five premades while we were all solo, wtf is this?"

Most likely, you weren't. Riot already said (prior to its release) that if you're in/have a group on your team, then you will be matched against the same number of groups on the other. Other than the very, very rare case, this is absolutely false.

  1. "The premade group I have on my team won't listen/do their own thing!"

Honestly, I would rather have this (And join them in doing their thing for a greater chance at success), than have four other solo queuers on my team farming the jungle/bottom lane while the enemy is doing baron/our inhibitor.

I know the new champion select is difficult to get used to, but keep in mind, it's reduced a lot of stress on players already. If you don't like it, I'd like you to keep some things in mind going into your next games.

  1. If you're with a group of premades, chances are, they're going to be having fun, which already eliminates rage quitters, AFKs, and troll picks.

  2. If you're matched up with a group (as above) and you're upset about it, chances are, you're the one ruining the gameplay experience going into the match with a negative attitude. Be positive about it, and perhaps they'll even add you to the group/Skype/Ranked team, and you can get a bit more enjoyment out of it.

  3. If you don't get the role you wanted, then perhaps it's time to find something enjoyable about other roles.

  4. The most important thing to keep in mind about the new champion select: It was designed with everybody in mind, to be more fair and positive for every player.

TL;DR, if you don't take the time to read this post, chances are, you're just going to downvote and move on (which means you're probably part of the problem >_>).
