Improving your gameplay. Specialize or Diversify

I'm pretty new to League but would like to get started on the right foot. I realize I cannot achieve a high level of mastery over all 5 roles, but if I were to focus on two roles how would I go about improving my gameplay?

Would I focus on 1 champion for each role and then expand to 2-3 for each role?

or

Would I focus on a variety of champions with different playstyles for the two roles?

-For instance- Right now I have only played Tryndamere and Kalista on Summoner's Rift. I had the idea that I might focus on these two for Top and Bottom and then add 1-2 more champions slowly. However, recently when I tried PvP at level 20 I got destroyed. I'm wondering if this is because of my flawed method or just a learning curve I will have to go through. Anyone have any suggestions on how you would have liked to have started?

Cheers

I'd say find one champion in those two roles you know you're comfortable with, let's say Tryndamere top and Kalista ADC. Now, try to find 1 or two champions that fill these two's weaknesses. Tryndamere is a high damage Splitpusher, so maybe you'll need to learn how to play a Tank with high team fight impact regardless of damage, like Malphite. Kalista, while a great ADC when it comes to fights and skirmishes, isn't a great siege aid. Champs like Corki or Caitlyn with higher ranges would grant you better strategic options when you're not confident in using Kalista against a given comp.

As an aside, since you're a level 20, I honestly believe you should focus on your basics above all else. Choose simple champions for now and build a solid foundation of good habits and highly applicable skillsets above all else for now.

Its not your method, its just that you have experienced this much of LOL {...} when you have this much left before you will really understand the basics of the games and positions {..................................................................................................................}

There are currently close to 130 champs out there, some with similar kits, but all still very much their own champs. And then when you take them to a different lane, they have different playstyles and builds. then you take them against different champs and you have even more variation.

The way I went about getting into league was starting with one champ and becoming very familiar with them as i leveled to 30. I would also play the free rotation champs in between to get familiar with them as well. That champ was Kat, and I took her to all lanes. After that, I tried to master a ranged champ, Cait, then moved on to a tank, and then a jungler, and then a support.

After having at least one champ for each lane, then I started to expand my champ pool. the benefit of this was that I could understand a little bit about each role so that I wasn't clueless when it was time to roam the map or group for team fights.

Focusing on 1-2 champs now will let you have something to fall back on because you will naturally become more curious about the other champs (especially when you go against them in lane and they beat the crap out of you). And the only way to beat them is to understand their kits, but using them yourself eventually).

But good luck and take it slow, cause again, you've only really touched the tip of the iceberg and the iceberg is FRICKEN HUUUUUUGE!
