8.10 Changes to Jungle has both pros and cons from neutral perspective
Before I start. I know most of you jump on the sight of any big change and will probably end up down voting. But I am giving my honest opinion after playing a good amount on this patch. Hopefully the balance/gameplay team read this and get feedback.
Goals achieved from this patch=>
-
Shorter games [Check]; (Most/All games I have had, end up before the elder spawn)
-
Players who snowball into mid/late game have a major impact to game result [Check]; (that top lane player who is crushing his lane can/will end up carrying the game or that jungler who persistently controlled all of the obj and was such a dominant force in the enemy jungle will end up snowballing the game not one but all of the lanes)
-
There is no more better jungler wins. Its "Better Team Rotations Wins". Teamplay Priority [Check]; (That support who makes an extra effort to show up at an invade or that top laner who not only looks for TP plays but helps in controlling the vision in jg transition into a mid game with winning momentum)
-
Team variety [Check]; (The champs that are picked the majority of last patches are stale and repetitive. The new changes are geared towards a fast paced comp that can sustain and outrotate. This is a patch where teams comprising of tanks, assassins, and fighters are necessary to achieve optimal win conditions. Got full AD comp? No worries. They can win games)
Now the downsides that I have noticed=>
-
High player/team frustration [Check]; (I see the team complaining about their jungler who is underleved at minute 10 and cannot go into his own jg without support from laners. Game is auto loss in such scenarios. No coming back.)
-
Better Comp wins outright from champ select [Check]; (Early fighters with sustain gain a lot of control of the game which can snowball fast. Xin, Lee Sin, Udyr, Graves, Kayn, Kha have an innate advantage over other slow clear champs. If your team doesn't pick from that pool, it puts them at a disadv right from the start.)
-
River is a lane now. Win RIver, Win Game [Check]; (I have played as a top laner, as well as a support. If your jg is on the other side of the map, taking the scuttle spawned on your side means you get XP as well as gold for moving out of your lane. Plus not to forget the free vision on that area) One might ask "How is that a down side?" Let me tell you, I hail from low elo. Avg silver/gold player. There is a huge shift in meta that most players who are used to it have become complacent. Every one knows there are 3 lanes and a jungle to win as a priority condition. This meta has introduced a fourth option that is the "River". Winning this requires a team coordinated actions that are hard to come by in lower elo. And as we all know most of the player base is in the lower elo. Certain higher elo players too are victims of this. They only take control of the river when a major objective is being contested. Now the time frame has been pushed to "Always" rather than "Baron spawn/Dragon spawn")
My suggestion: Give more time to test the changes. Two more patches should give enough room. Players adapt to the fast paced manner. 20+ minute games are a thing now. Only revert changes that are counter productive. That hurt player gameplay like tweak jg exp so that players do not start raging 5 minutes into game and spam ff the minute a tower dies.
"Players hate to change, but love the challenge that the game throws at them"
