"Map Awareness"

Remember when riot introduced a little thing called Smart Pings? To help players express different thing happening in the game like "OMW, MIA, Danger, Assist me?" Instead of just having the general Blue ping?

What happened to using them? Its honestly really annoying how they gave us a useful ping so that we didn't have to call out things and instead of typing "MIA" every 10 seconds we could just ping. Now all that happens is Im focusing on farming only to get 4 man ganked and then killed with no MIA ping in sight, and then the response from my laner is "Map awareness"

Is it really that hard to press V and then drag your mouse to the Left so that I know that people are MIA? Why are people so stubborn on using this key feature that negates the need to chat so often. Now, I know that i should be watching the map, and I understand that sometimes you forget to call MIA but why not just say "My bad, didn't call MIA, but try to look at your map more often." Instead im greeted with "Map awareness idiot" or "??? you idiot look at your map, dont blame me"

So, might I ask, am I in the wrong to be a little upset that my laners aren't calling MIA or am i in the right?
