I never thought I'd be around to be saying something like this, but pal you should have seen Riven back in my day. The Riven there is now is a shadow of what she used to be in late season 3 and early season 4, when I was also maining her. If you didn't get first blood at level 1 you were considered a bad Riven back then.
Her Q used to deal much more damage.
Her shield used to last much longer.
Her ult used to give a bit more bonus.
Her regen got cut by about 45%.
Her base damages were lowered.
She went through a crippling series of nerfs specifically meant to weaken her early game so Riven players had to work more to hit that snowballing point. And you know what happened? For a long time she was considered nerfed too far and had been broken in a bad way. People stopped playing her, all except the dedicated Riven mains. And you know what happened then? They started realizing that while you aren't going to get any level 1 kills with her, she was every bit as viable as she used to be provided you worked for it.
Riven snowballs hard, and she can be a force to be reckoned with if she gets fed. But the only time a Riven is going to get that fed is if your team has been feeding her those kills because I can assure you, from personal experience, that it is NOT as easy to get her snowballing as it once was.
If you need help playing against her? Learn her. Learn her in and out. That's hands down the best way to learn how to beat a champion in this game, not by watching what they do but by knowing how they play. She's all about mobility and smart positioning, and about interweaving her passive procs in and between her Qs, and Ws to deal as much damage in as little time as possible. She is by no means broken, either positively or negatively, you just don't know how to play against her.
Make her waste her abilities so she's waiting for them to cool down and punish her with she overextends, which is incredibly easy for her to do considering that her entire kit will push a wave even if she doesn't want to while she's going for you.
Dodge her Qs.
Stay away from her immediate area if you haven't seen her use her W in the last five seconds.
If she wants to turret dive you, make her work for it by moving behind your tower, giving her no straight way to get directly back out without having to move through your jungle because she'll have already popped both her dash and her Qs trying to get to you as quickly as possible. Makes her easy jungle food.
