MMR or win/loss system 'balancing algorithm' is too simplistic and predictable
Hi, Avid League player here. The new season seems very turbulent more action in games but are not really making it worthwhile the League churn of getting through the ranked season to get to higher levels. Undoubtedly as the season changes, the dynamics of the games played changes. Wonder how old League players fare in games compared to new ones with respect to win/loss ratios and how much they fall in rank.
Now down to my topic:
-
I know LP is based off MMR. Being a Silver 4 player placed in Bronze 4 this season, hurts and what hurts more is carrying a game being 9/0/7 (win 15LP) and then losing a game and losing 20LP. This logic of MMR baffles me.. If I do good as a player, I should get the LP. A win is a win.. Just like how Riot explains someone getting DC'd and you end up losing the game: shit happens. I should be moving up the ladder instead of the game telling me - oh you won! congratulations!! but you are still not that good enough so I should give you less LP. Wonder if athletes in the Olympics should be given bronze just because their jump of the night was a unexplained outlier (athlete did shit throughout the year) that should be ignored.

This in my terms is comparable to 'Statistical Overkill' - interpreting stats literally through rough patterns to make erroneous judgements. If you focus so hard on MMR at the back end, try working with practical considerations, false positives for matching players to better/worse match-ups. Sound vague here. But a vague back-end code explanation which fks the new players deserves no better. I mean at least those words mean something to my developer team at the place I work.

I observe a pattern in my win-loss. Crazy..how is the match-up algorithm even so predictable? to the point I can say my next game is probably going to be a loss again, unless the system puts a couple of crazies on the other team who dont play well. Is there really a need for such a comparative system? either ways 'shit happens'. I know Riot analyzes big player data at the back end probably to an extent to balance gameplay..but is creating a much more complex dynamic system weird and stupid? all just to bring the player win/loss to an average 50% give or take? so it is a game where you will predictively lose after you win a certain %. Making it kind of pointless for new learners of the game and those who play the game for some recreation and fun.

Does MMR vary for ranked/ normal games? If not I am thinking of losing normal games to a point I play with noobies and switch over to ranked to win. Wonder what other people think of this. Giving up the game soon by the way. Back to Battlefield, Guild Wars, DOTA and Skyrim I guess.
