For everyone coming to Ekko's rescue...

I would like to pose a test for you. To everyone running about the boards trying to put out fires relating to the newest champion, Ekko, claiming that his kit is fine, that he isn't the first champion to be released with an overloaded kit, and even tossing up Elise's icon like it actually means something, let's see if you can just answer a quick question. If you can give a decent answer then I'll gladly concede the argument, but I want to know:

What is your idea of counter-play to Ekko post-6?

That's all. I want you to tell me how I'm expected to outplay/counter him post-level 6, because right now I'm drawing a blank. I want anyone to give an explanation, a play-by-play, whatever, to let the community know how to deal with Ekko, because I can see people are having trouble.

What is you problem exactly? Are you worried about the ult damage? If so, you have got a clone of him following him around telling where the explosion will land

Are you worried about the "oops, i screwed up" reset? I myself don't think that's a problem, he barely gains any health back unless you're playing a burst mage. And if so, don't forget Ekko's ult has a long ass cooldown, so you can outplay him around that

The rest of his kit? Not that deadly His stun has a 3 second delay, so it should be easy to dodge it

The thing is, he may be strong, but unlike other champions, he has counter-play, and a lot of it at that

I guess major problem is the ult. "Gotta tower dive? dash for the in, Q to close the escaping route , damage damage and R to warp back to safety. " "Oh, got ganked! So let's try stun... dash.. well, it didn't work, so R YAY" "Dueling.. if he tries to kill me he will A) Risk taking the opressive damage from the ult a try to burst me while I got a a heal, or B) Think I won't active the ult a chase my ghost". "B... full life shopped... and I'm back with R. Clearing the turret wave"

Too much utility, too much damage.

Utility is great, but if you don't pay the price you crowd out other picks. I can't see diana being viable while ekko has better AOE damage and two possible escape routes.

Well I saw Bjerg absolutely dumpster an Ekko in lane going 6-0 as Viktor last night despite getting heavily camped by the enemy jungle and support. I don't think he's quite as strong as people are letting on. Folks like to exaggerate on here.

interesting, the amount of people who cannot avoid a DELAYED ult to a SPECIFIC point that you can SEE is surprisingly high. i guess the only thing that should change is the B-R combo with homeguard, its a little ridiculus especially if a fight is around the place you recalled.

Seems to me like you either have to play brand and somewhat predict his movements, or play another assassin and abandon the lane at 6 to roam. Neither of these options are 100% guarantees of success and the avenues should not be this limited. Get rid of his stun field, the dash, and tweak a few numbers and he would actually be okay as a champion. Right now though he bursts worse than a full build talon, has four times as much crowd control, and is more safe than zed in his kit. Riot took everything that the community has been complaining about and rolled it into one champion. Disgusting.

hope he´s an idiot, going full off with no proper initiation and then getting blown to bits...

if he doesnßt missplay however, there´s very little you can do.

My counter is to pick Veigar, toss my stun up where he wants to / has to go, and then delete him before he gets a chance to ult. Plus, if Ekko tries to waveclear, you get much more chance to farm Q properly.

If Ekko E's to you, you just got a free Q on him and possibly your EW combo as well (and R if it's post-6).

If veigar gets a RoA first + some MR item like a Chalice, Ekko can't really do all that much to stop him from farming and you can take potshots at Ekko who, having built damage, will end up getting chunked if you hit him.

Farm! Freeze the lane at your end, and he will burn mana trying to farm with Q instead of farming with last hits. His mobility is for engaging, so you can get free hits if he last hits minions with melee, and he can't safely dive you with only E. Also, if you push to his side, he can overlap his ulti on you to deal massive burst, but if the lane is near your turret, he has to save ulti for dives or to retreat from ganks, losing a lot of damage. Don't aim for the kill, he is a very safe champion, out farm him and force him to recall or build mana instead of damage.

Place wards in your jungle as he roams quite easily, if he does roam, and you know where the jungleer is, follow him. If he engages bot and needs to escape, stay near (no on) his shadow for free finishing blows. If he is running away, DON'T Chase, he jukes worse than wukong and Yasuo. I baited the enemy team around the entire map (I was back door bot, ran to drake, hoped over wall, went to inner mid turret, went top passed baron, then returned safely to my lane. My team tried to help and died like fools, but I had the enemy team chasing me for about 1/2 minutes while I was dealing damage with Ulti and poke. my ulti actually came off cd, that's how long they chased me for.

If you don't have MR or he's ahead, don't dual him. He will try to slyly place his stun over you, and he can ulti on the spot for massive burst. Poke and retreat, hit him while he farms, he has no sustain, so he has no way to get that HP back, unless he wants to waste ulti. Mana regen doesn't synergise with his kit well, bait his skill shots and dodge them, if he is low on mana he can only recall, as he can't even use ulti to escape anymore.

If you are ahead, let the wave push, then go aggro on him. force him to ulti early and he won't even be able to last hit a couple minions, he will be forced to recall entirely, Fiora is good at this. If he goes top, Fiora and Darius (if played really well) can punish him, panth as well, if he is mid, most assassins like LB will be able to bait and punish him for trying to farm, and stop him snowballing.

Haven't gone up against a yas yet, but Zed and Lb should beat him.

So yeah, biggest tip, like with Kata, watch out for his roaming, and cut off his farm, he will become useless. Late game and team fights he is very strong, so get ahead, DO NOT DIVE, if anything, roam yourself if your lane is pushed. Deny him farm, deny early kills, and get ahead with good map awareness and stop him from reaching Nasus-level late game, as his full build is oppressive, and hard cc followed by high burst is your only chance at taking him out. And like singed, Do Not Chase

This is pretty much the same question as what you do against <insert assassin X here> post 6, where X is Ahri Zed Leblanc Akali etc., and the answer is still the same. Essentially, the complaint is "X has ridiculous damage, insane mobility, and a totally unfair ult that lets them 100-0 me without any danger to themselves." That's pretty much been true of any assassin, on the most basic level. But, unless you've lost every game you've ever played against an assassin, you know that you can beat them with CC, tankiness, good positioning, baiting their combo, etc. etc. Nerfs incoming, I'm sure. New champs are mostly OP so people will play them a lot and Rito will know how to nerf them. But I'm still gonna take my Cho'gath mid lane and stomp the newest assassin X with natural tankiness, CC, and sustain.
