Dragon VS Tower, which to choose?

One thing I've noticed during the recent games is that, players value dragon more than ANYTHING. The way they precious dragon is beyond ridiculous: Some would give away 3-5 kills for one drag, some would give away inhibitor for drag, some would give away baron for drag, AND THERE'S ONE GAME MY TEAM GAVE AWAY NEXUS FOR DRAG. Now, imo the value of this pretty dragon changes based on the number of dragon stacks each team has, how ahead/behind the enemy team is and how late it is into a game, and in some situation the dragon could mean more than baron even. However, literally 95% of the games I played in preseason people think dragon > everything. If I remember correctly, this whole new dragon baron tower elixr changes are all about STRATEGIC DIVERSITY, (Didn't read into details about that particular article) but instead of diversity I'm seeing more DRAGON WINS GAMES. I agree, dragon buffs are neat, but I personally don't care if enemies have to trade a tower or even two for that first/second dragon buff, not to mention that dragon no longer grants gold. Taking towers can create map pressure and provide global gold, which can help a team to rush their core item faster and set up plays in fog of war. THEN WHY DRAGON > TOWER ALWAYS? MAY SOMEONE EXPLAIN? Where's the good old "take the towers , they doing drag"?

Depends on which tower the team is sacrificing for dragon.

The two pros for Dragons are:

  • If you do it, the enemy team can't.
  • The more dragon buffs you have, the sharper of an edge you have against the enemy.

While come late game, towers go down in 2 to 3 seconds anyways.

The only thing worth more than a Dragon is a baron, an inhibitor, and the nexus and its turrets. Of course, if the enemy team has 4 stacks, you would want to do all within your power to prevent them from getting 5 stacks, since if they do, there is no way you would win with that much of a combat disadvantage.

Towers mean more of an early game advantage, while drag means more of a late game advantage. Early dragons grant a little bit, but it's hardly game changing. However, getting more stacks from dragon can help your team make up for early loses in the game.

They tryed to make it less of a gold trade yet they made drag worth more. Kind of Riot's fault for that.

Sometimes you can't take down towers, so go for dragon

Its not just about getting dragon, its about denying enemy dragons. If both teams already have one dragon, its not a big deal. But if you can keep the enemy from ever taking it, then you keep a significant advantage the entire match.

I notice the exact opposite in my games--people don't value Dragon enough. Often times I play top lane, so unless they place a ward down(almost never), I'm unable to port in and help out with Dragon fights.

But that's the thing, there are no Dragon fights. Nobody goes after Dragon anymore when I play. Ten minutes into the game I'll be thinking, "Did we get Dragon yet?" I'll ask that to myself again 5 minutes later, 10, 20, 30 minutes later I'll be thinking that, and then I'll check the enemy team, they have 3 Dragon buffs.

Wow.

So I either have to stop playing top lane, or I have to give up having permanent buffs via Dragon.

And Dragon is ridiculously valuable. This is a game of millimeters. Sure, in lower mmr/ranked anything can happen, but even then it's still in-favor of those who have higher stats.

But because it doesn't give you "just" enough gold to get that next item, nobody places priority on it anymore. It's almost depressing how many games I've lost because of this.
