Minor Regions Having Team Tags In-Game

Is there any explanation as to why minor regions or teams who are in play ins don't have their team tags in front of player names when you use their icon? My example here is Gambit, which ideally would have the [GMB] tag in front of the player name, but it doesn't. The TSM icon I've seen so much has the [TSM] tag in front as well. Any ideas?
